(EU) Those who broke Iraq should pay to fix it
BRUSSELS: Prior to an important meeting of the European Union heads of state and government, anti-war EU member states have expressed their ‘considered opinion’ that "those who broke Iraq should pay to fix it," a prominent EU diplomat told The News.

<snip>

France and Germany want the United Nations to have a stronger role in running Iraq and are demanding a quick transfer of power to the Iraqis.

<snip>

"The EU is very meticulously watching the developments taking place at the Organisation of Islamic Conference summit in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

The views of the Islamic world would also be considered during the process of evolving a common European position on the issues like Iraq and the Middle East," the Union official said.

<snip>

The European Union is the world’s biggest aid donor, but in the case of Iraq EU member states are showing trepidation as some European Union countries, which opposed the war are uncomfortable with the way the United States runs Iraq, and are reluctant to make any major contribution arguing that European Union budget is already stretched with priorities such as Afghanistan, Liberia and the West Bank and Gaza Strip and more funds cannot be made available for reconstruction in Iraq.

13. What is up with that ?

Why are the dems saying that Iraq should pay for the rebuilding? The dems are the ones who are saying that Iraq should pay and tried to pass a bill in the senate saying they have the money.Thats wrong and the people here and in the rest of the world see it.We have to get ours heads on straight before its handed to us again next year.We invaded and destroyed Iraq. Don't they get it? We are responsible because Bush destroyed what was left of the place after his father started it and Clinton refused to let them rebuild. twelve years of no fly zones and sanctions help to create the whole mess. Of course we can't afford it and thats what should be said we screwed up because of the rush to war by Bush but wait thats what so many dems backed when they gave him the blank check to go to war . Now we must pay the price.

3. They are right and
this is the strongest argument I can think of for breaking this whole outrage wide open in the main stream media and making those who intended to profit from it accept due responsibility.

As it is the American people - all of us - have given too much.

8. Kucinich agrees!!
But if we have everything under the auspices of the UN, including all contracts, it will be a lot LESS EXPENSIVE in money, not to say in LIVES.

And Iraqis could be involved in their own reconstruction. Novel idea, that.A great way to transition the 50% plus unemployed back into their own society so they can take over!!
