Kennedy Center Denied Federal Funding

Tuesday August 2, 2005 2:01 AM

By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Kennedy Center won't be building a plaza and two new buildings because expected federal funding has fallen through.

Officials with the performing arts center had hoped that money to help pay for the $650 million project would be included in the transportation bill that was passed by Congress last Friday. But budget constraints forced lawmakers to pass the package without the $400 million federal contribution.

Center officials told The Washington Post the project has been postponed indefinitely.

The plaza would have included broad cover over the Whitehurst Freeway, with pools, trees and paths for pedestrians and bikers that would lead back to the National Mall.

New York City-based architect Rafael Vinoly would have designed the two buildings, one dedicated to educational exhibits on the performing arts and the other for rehearsal space.

I bet if it had the Bush name on it would get the money and even more!!!

6. Halliburton announces 284 percent increase in war profits
25 July 2005

"WASHINGTON, July 25 (HalliburtonWatch.org) -- Halliburton announced on Friday that its KBR division, responsible for carrying out Pentagon contracts, experienced a 284 percent increase in operating profits during the second quarter of this year.

The increase in profits was primarily due to the Pentagon's payment of "award fees" for what military officials call "good" or "very good" work done by KBR in the Middle East for America's taxpayers and the troops.

Despite the scandals that plague KBR's military contracts, the Pentagon awarded $70 million in "award" fees to the company, along with four ratings of "excellent" and two ratings of "very good" for the troop logistics work under the Army's LOGCAP contract.

The Pentagon has provided preferential treatment to Halliburton on a number of occasions, including the concealment from the public of critical reports by military auditors."

4. any center with the Bush name on it
WOULD be funded, but it certainly would NOT have any association with the performing arts.

Unless of course there is need for a male cheerleader hall of fame?

The Transportation Bill? You've got to be fucking kidding me.

If you want funding, ask for it.

The NEA, perhaps?
