BAGHDAD, Iraq-- A reporter for the Army Times newspaper embedded with U.S. military troops was injured in a suicide car bombing in western Iraq, the U.S. military said Tuesday.

Army Times reporter Matthew Cox wounded in Iraq

Times staff

Army Times reporter Matthew Cox was wounded Tuesday evening in Iraq by a suicide bomber. Despite being hit in the left leg by three pieces of shrapnel from the bomb, Cox was not seriously injured.
The attack occurred roughly three miles from the Iraq-Syria border, west of the Iraqi town of Rahwah.

Cox, who is embedded with B Company, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, was riding along in a patrol of 12 Stryker combat vehicles from the unit when the attack occurred.

Shortly before the explosion, the patrol had captured several men who were digging a hole, clearly in preparation for planting a bomb. The soldiers recovered five large improvised explosive devices that the men were readying to put into the hole.

3. Three miles from the Syrian border.
That area has been in the news a lot. Reminiscent of Viet Nam/Cambodia.

4. Curious. Anyone here read the Army Times?
How independently critical do you find their coverage of the war?

While not wishing to judge a book by its cover, my visit to their web site turned up only the thinnest propaganda. I can't imagine it goes much deeper than that--or does it?
