Pakistani couple tortured and killed over illicit relationship

ISLAMABAD - Tribesmen in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province tortured and then shot dead a girl and a man for having what they described as an “illicit” relationship, police said on Tuesday.

Investigating officer Ghulam Ali told DPA it happened late on Sunday in the remote village of Mirpur when angry members of the Khokar tribe whisked away Mohammad Ijaz, 25, and a teenage tribe member on suspicion of conducting an improper relationship.

“They took them to a nearby sugarcane farm in dark and sprayed (them) with bullets,” Ali said.

The alleged lovers were kept hostage for several hours before being killed. A post mortem revealed that the two had been tortured.
