With 92 percent of the precincts reporting, incumbents Ken Cockrel Jr. (52,856 votes), Mary Ann Mahaffey (48,163), JoAnn Watson (43,449), Sheila Cockrel (39,875), Alberta Tinsley Talabi (37,066) and Barbara Rose Collins (37,259) led the voting, Local 4 reported.
Councilman Alonzo Bates -- who is under investigation for illegally paying staffers -- received 14,151 votes, Local 4 reported.
Other candidates who will advance to the November election include Wayne County Commissioner Kwame Kenyatta, Monica Conyers -- the wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers, singer Martha Reeves, former boxer Hilmer Kenty, Ortheia Barnes , Jai-Lee Dearing , Brenda Jones, Keith Butler, Thomas Stallworth, Bettie Scott and Tia Davis, Local 4 reported.
So you know, the City Council will get at least two new faces.
