Schwarzenegger offers energy plan (uh oh)

Gov.-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger, who saw his predecessor undone by California's electricity debacle, is engaged in his own high-wire act, offering an energy plan designed for both ends of the political spectrum.
Schwarzenegger's preliminary proposal takes a Republican-style reliance on free markets, which became decidedly unpopular in the energy crisis of 2000-2001, and mixes in liberal favorites such as aggressive conservation and increased use of green energy.
Within two years, for example, he wants half of all new homes built in California to be equipped with solar cells.

2. Before the CA Legislature conducts even one vote on his plans,

they must demand to have a full accounting of Ahnold's private meeting with Ken Lay at the height of the phony-ass "energy criris". They must demand to know exactly what was discussed. If Ahnold refuses, and say's he, "can't remember", then they should deny him all energy legislation.

Much more scrutiny must be given on WHO is advising Ahnold on energy issues too. Something tells me whatever he comes up with, is going to stink, and set this state up again to be screwed by Bush's Texas energy buddies.

CA still has a number of lawsuits pending against these thieves, in an attempt to re-coup some of the tens of billions the state was ripped off for. I wonder if Ahnold will call for these suits to be dropped, letting these people get off scot-free? Hopefully, the AG will proceed full-steam ahead!

BTW, anyone heard from Ken Lay lately? Has he been in CA recently?

6. Don't know about Ken but Aunald is meeting Bush today

Bush is attending a fundraiser in San Bernadino here in So Cal. Aunald will attend and "meet privately" with the smirk. To hand over the keys?

9. Call your representatives and write your local newspapers, CA DU-ers!

You have every right to know if there's a connection between Arnold's meeting with Lay and his wanting to settle the lawsuit when the state economy is hurting for money. Indeed, if he does settle, conspiracy or and/or obstruction of justice charges should be in order.

3. His solution is (not suprisingly) greenwashing

Free-market energy - that's the problem, not the solution. Making some empty promises concerning conservation and "green" energy is the equivalent of Bush pimping his not-yet-invented hydrogen super-car while lowering environmental standards and pushing for lower emissions standards and reducing the Clean Air Act. Greenwashing, plain and simple.

4. I like the solar cell idea, is he proposing incentives?

I think that in certain parts of the country builders should have some sort of incentive to incorporate solar cells, or at least passive solar energy into building designs. Reducing the need for energy is always a good thing, especially when it is unobtrusive and hassle-free.

I also just read about a new solar cell product made out of cheap plastic. It is not as efficient, but the cost and durability makes it break even with traditional cells.

5. It's mostly Repug "free-market" economics

I said when he entered that Schwarzenegger'd mean higher utility bills for Californians.

In 2000, the gentlemen farmers who control my state's legislature were ready to pass on a de-reg bill to our DLC governor. But the California energy crisis hit and they backed off.

If Aww-no'd gets Simon's fully-blown de-reg package through the California legislature the rest of these reactionary Repug dominated state legislatures will fall like dominos.

7. He won't get it through BJ. Both houses of the legislature are solidly

Dem, and after getting burned so badly last time, there is no way Republican type de-reg will EVER pass again, ever. Arnold can put up plans all he wants, but it means nothing. If the Dems can show how it would raise our rates even further (we're already highest in the nation), or it helps the energy companies in any way, they can kill him with it. His mouth is flapping, but it means less than nothing.

8. But will they speak with one voice

Remember Aunald's, "I vill take it to the people," promise if he doesn't get his way. The legislature should respond, "WE WILL NOT BE GROPED."
