Hil stomps Pirro, Cox in poll (2006 NY Senate)

BY JOE MAHONEY
DAILY NEWS ALBANY BUREAU CHIEF

Sen. Hillary Clinton is in tip-top shape as she prepares to run for reelection, with a new poll showing her drubbing two possible Republican rivals, Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro and Manhattan lawyer Ed Cox.

The Quinnipiac University poll had Clinton topping Pirro 63% to 29% and romping past Cox 64% to 26% in hypothetical matchups.

...snip...

Cox, son-in-law of President Richard Nixon, has said he plans to challenge Clinton. GOP insiders said Pirro is expected to decide next week which statewide office she will seek. Pirro's camp denied a report in the New York Post that she has ruled out a Senate run.
