Rumsfeld: London Attacks Not Retaliation

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld on Thursday rejected as "nonsense" the notion that recent terrorist attacks in London were retaliation for the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

"Some people seem confused about the motivations and intentions of terrorists and about our coalition's defense of the still young democracies in Afghanistan and Iraq," Rumsfeld said in a speech to the Los Angeles World Affairs Council.

"They seem to cling to the discredited theory that the recent attacks in London and elsewhere, for example, are really in retaliation for the war in Iraq or for the so-called occupation of Afghanistan," he added. "That is nonsense."

In a videotape broadcast earlier Thursday, the second-in-command for the al-Qaida terrorist network, Ayman al-Zawahri, threatened more destruction in London, saying that British Prime Minister Tony Blair would be to blame.

Causality only works for me. Am I right? Of course I'm right. Anyone who sees this as a backlash doesn't understand that we're never wrong.

2. Other witticisms by Herr Rumsfeld
"The MWD's are north, south, and somewhat east of Baghdad"

"The insurgency is just a handful of dead-enders"

"We will be in Iraq only a matter of weeks not more than two months"

"We will be welcomed as liberators"

"The war will only cost $2 billion and will be paid for by oil"

"There is no doubt that Saddam possesses huge amounts of WMDs at this time"

Nostradamus, he's not.

He's just another fucking idiot neo-con who has no goddamned skin in the game except for his 'legacy' which is already fried beyond recognition. If he had any sense of honor or dignity, he'd go off behind his house and blow his own fucking brains out.

He's a very prolific liar and its hard to keep up with all of the really really big ones.

These are just off the top of my head. I like your idea, though. Need to dig through the bilge of his brain and skim off the muck and bookmark it to respond to his future Giant Lies.

22. Here ...
Rumsfeld (3/14/04): "You and a few other critics are the only people I've heard use the phrase 'immediate threat.' I didn't. The president didn't."
Schieffer: "Vice president didn't say that? The..."
Rumsfeld: "Not--if--if you have any citations, I'd like to see 'em."

"But no terrorist state poses a greater or more immediate threat to the security of our people and the stability of the world than the regime of Saddam Hussein in Iraq." -- Donald Rumsfeld, September 10, 2002

"Some have argued that the nuclear threat from Iraq is not imminent, that Saddam is at least five to seven years away from having nuclear weapons. I would not be so certain." -- Donald Rumsfeld, September 19, 2002

"Iraq poses a serious and mounting threat to our country. His regime has the design for a nuclear weapon, was working on several different methods of enriching uranium, and recently was discovered seeking significant quantities of uranium from Africa." -- Donald Rumsfeld, January 2003

"The idea that it's going to be a long, long, long battle of some kind I think is belied by the fact of what happened in 1990. Five days or five weeks or five months, but it certainly isn't going to last any longer than that." -- Donald Rumsfeld, November 15, 2002

37. Actually
Dick Cheney said, "We will be welcomed as liberators".

and

"Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction."

Rumsfeld says something similar:

"Saddam Hussein possesses chemical and biological weapons... His regime is paying a high price to pursue weapons of mass destruction -- giving up billions of dollars in oil revenue. His regime has large, unaccounted for stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons -- including VX, sarin, cyclosarin and mustard gas; anthrax, botulism, and possibly smallpox -- and he has an active program to acquire and develop nuclear weapons."

The $2 billion dollar figure was the amount the oil fields would need to get them on line, not the total cost of the war.

I can't find any source for "two months" quote.

I'm not trying to make you look bad, but I was just reading the comments in preparation for posting the story and started to source the quotes.

We have to be VERY careful about keep all our facts straight.

43. I think this is the Rummy whopper that is close...
From Feb 2003 Aviano Air Base, Italy Town Hall Meeting

Rumsfeld: Well -- (laughter) -- let me say this about that. (Laughter.) It is highly unlikely that we would go to a full mobilization. We -- I have been signing a great many deployment orders and mobilization orders and alerting orders. The forces have been flowing now for a good number of weeks, and that has had its intended effect. There is no question but that the world's focus is on the fact that the Iraqi regime, now for some 12 years, continues to ignore and disagree with the now 17 resolutions of the United Nations. The world understands that; they are looking for cooperation and hoping that the force flow will bring about cooperation, but thus far, it has not.

We don't talk about deployments in the specific, but we have brought a good many Guard and Reserve on active duty. Fortunately, a great many of them were volunteers. We have been able to have relatively few stop losses. There are some currently, particularly in the Army, but relatively few in the Navy and the Air Force. And it is not knowable if force will be used, but if it is to be used, it is not knowable how long that conflict would last. It could last, you know, six days, six weeks. I doubt six months.

5. This millionaire should be serviing time in prison.

Rumsfailed Admitted to Violating Geneva Convention

Rumsfailed admitted in public on TV that when CIA Director Tenet requested that an Iraqi prisoner be sent to a secret Afghan/US Prison that Rumsfailed did so. After four months a DOD Attorney stated that this was an illegal act. Rumsfailed then ordered that this prisoner be sent back to Abu Graihib but the prisoner was purposefully not listed at that location, also an illegal act. Rumsfeld also admitted to signing orders for tougher interogation methods which violated the Geneva Conventions.

Rumfailed has commited at least three violations of the Geneva Convention thereby also violations of The Constitution of the USA. Recently it has been found out that even more detainees were "ghost detainees". The fact that Rumsfailed and Tenet have not been charged speaks volumes. If Congress wishes to garner any respect they should move forward with Rep. Rangle's Impeachment Declaration of Rumsfailed and also proscecute Ex. CIA Tenet.

The US, Govt., Congress, and the Justice Dept no longer abide by the Geneva Convention or the Constitution of the USA.

39. Would you believe -
this man is worth about $139 million bucks. That was BEFORE the war in Iraq, so he may have done a lot of profiteering and skimming since then.

RumsFailed is a war profiteer. I've read articles about this bastard selling nuclear parts to North Korea, selling arms to BOTH SIDES. He doesn't care. He's an Arms Merchant.

We won't talk about the Hen house.

US issues worldwide travel warning to Americans

Press Trust of India

Washington, August 3, 2005

The US State Department has issued an updated worldwide caution on terrorism, warning Americans about the threat of extremist violence against US citizens and interests abroad.

The warning issued on Tuesday did not list countries but cited "current information" as indicating that Al-Qaeda and affiliated terrorist groups are planning attacks against US interests in "multiple regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East."

"US citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster their personal security," the statement said.

The department's official caution supersedes an alert issued in March which said attacks against private and official targets could come in the form of assassinations, kidnappings, hijackings or bombings.

(SNIP)

The Department cited as cause for concern the spill over from the US intervention in Iraq in and outside the Middle East, as well as other recent militant attacks in Europe.

"Ongoing events in Iraq have resulted in demonstrations and associated violence in several countries; such events are likely to continue for the foreseeable future," it said.
