WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Chief Justice William Rehnquist developed a fever on Thursday and was taken to a Virginia hospital for evaluation, U.S. Supreme Court spokesman Ed Turner said.

Rehnquist was at the Court earlier on Thursday.

An influential conservative on the Supreme Court for more than 30 years, Rehnquist was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in October.

He was briefly hospitalized in July, also for a fever and in March, because of a problem with his tracheotomy tube that helps him breathe.
