Venezuela 'destabilising neighbours'
More comic relief from State.

From correspondents in Washington

"The (US) administration has found mounting evidence that Venezuela is actively using its oil wealth to destabilise its democratic neighbours in the Americas by funding anti-democratic groups in Bolivia, Ecuador and elsewhere," Reynolds wrote to a legislator last week.

But under repeated questioning, Casey was unable to provide any details of the allegations, including what groups or individuals might have received Venezuelan funds or what proof Washington had.

---

Casey reiterated Washington's contention that Venezuela had been "either unwilling or unable" to assert control over its 2,240 kilometre border with Colombia.

Unlike the US border with Mexico, which is impossible to penetrate. But that's desert, much more difficult to "secure" than jungle, I'm sure.:sarcasm:

---

Chavez has called the US president a "jerk," branded Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as an "illiterate" he would not marry, and labeled the US government a "mafia of assassins."

Bush has poured into Venezuelan opposition groups by their OWN ADMISSION, he's got his minions from State pointing their gnarly fingers at Venezuela, and claiming Hugo Chavez is financing destabilization of other countries! My God, the NERVE!

Venezuela has its own priorities, and they are spending their money AT HOME on the POOR, as much as the opposition despises that fact.

It's not taking any outside influence for the Latin American countries to try to do their OWN housecleaning and getting rid of the pro-privatization traitors Bush and his grimey, greedy, criminal crew have been trying to install all over the place.

49. I hope he fares better in this world in the long run than did Che.

Here is the photo of Cuban "exile" Felix Rodriguez sitting with Vice-President Bush in his quarters on a Christmas eve in the 1980's.

From earlier times:

Here he is with Che Guevara right after they had shot him and captured him in Bolivia, before they executed him.

CIA - Debriefing of Félix Rodríguez

June 3, 1975 When Che Guevara was executed in La Higuera, one CIA official was present--a Cuban-American operative named Félix Rodríguez. Rodríguez, who used the codename "Félix Ramos" in Bolivia and posed as a Bolivian military officer, was secretly debriefed on his role by the CIA's office of the Inspector General in June, 1975. (At the time the CIA was the focus of a major Congressional investigation into its assassination operations against foreign leaders.) In this debriefing--discovered in a declassified file marked 'Félix Rodríguez' by journalist David Corn--Rodríguez recounts the details of his mission to Bolivia where the CIA sent him, and another Cuban-American agent, Gustavo Villoldo, to assist the capture of Guevara and destruction of his guerrilla band. Rodríguez and Villoldo became part of a CIA task force in Bolivia that included the case officer for the operation, "Jim", another Cuban American, Mario Osiris Riveron, and two agents in charge of communications in Santa Clara. Rodríguez emerged as the most important member of the group; after a lengthy interrogation of one captured guerrilla, he was instrumental in focusing the efforts to the 2nd Ranger Battalion focus on the Villagrande region where he believed Guevara's rebels were operating. Although he apparently was under CIA instructions to "do everything possible to keep him alive," Rodríguez transmitted the order to execute Guevara from the Bolivian High Command to the soldiers at La Higueras--he also directed them not to shoot Guevara in the face so that his wounds would appear to be combat-related--and personally informed Che that he would be killed. After the execution, Rodríguez took Che's Rolex watch, often proudly showing it to reporters during the ensuing years.

37. Venezuela demands US prove Chavez meddling charges
CARACAS, Venezuela - Venezuela on Thursday demanded Washington prove its charges that President Hugo Chavez was using his nation’s oil wealth to fund anti-democratic groups and destabilize his South American neighbors.

The terse statement from Caracas responded to a senior US official who described in a letter the Bush administration’s ”mounting evidence” Venezuela was financing movements in Bolivia and Ecuador and other countries in the region.

“The Venezuelan government demands the US government present the proof subsecretary for legislative affairs Matthew Reynolds says he has of mounting evidence Venezuela uses its oil wealth to destabilize its democratic neighbors,” the statement said.

The spat is the latest to fray relations between Venezuela, the world’s No. 5 oil exporter, and the United States, which gets 15 percent of its petroleum imports from Caracas.

38. Now that's cool. These bastards have just been hurling charges
out from the moment Bush swaggered into the White House. It's time they started getting challenged every time they crank out any of their vile lies and insinuations. It's the way to make them either explain how it is they came to their outrageous conclusions or shut the #### up.

It's embarrassing watching them running the country. If they don't cheat, they'll get nowhere. Pulling whoppers out of their arses and villifying leaders who are trying to improve the lot of the poor is routine for them. If they don't do it, people will see the stunning difference between them and leaders with vision and concern for their people.

It's harder to do things right that advance the welfare of mankind than to run a piece of crap like a Republican pResidency.

41. Oh, that's great! I went back and checked, as I had forgotten this part
This is comical:
But under repeated questioning, Casey was unable to provide any details of the allegations, including what groups or individuals might have received Venezuelan funds or what proof Washington had.

He cited what he called the public record and press reports. "Beyond that, I really am not in a position to get into other information that comes from classified or intelligence sources."
(snip)
SO EMBARASSING. Bald-faced lying in front of God and everybody.... So "He cited what he called the public record and press reports." Public record and press reports refer to Bush's administration pouring TONS of money into the very groups who have caused the trouble in the STRIKES, in the COUP, in the RECALL.

God love'em. They are so pathetic.

42. "He cited what he called the public record and press reports..."
Yeah, I've seen these U.S. corporate news monopoly "press reports," which invariably describe Hugo Chavez in the following way...

"...the president of Venezuela whose opponents accuse him of an increasingly authoritarian rule."

"Opponents" not identified. No quotes. No names. No associations mentioned, or sources of funding. And that's all they say by way of describing Hugo Chavez. They don't mention that he has been elected by large majorities in elections that have been the most scrutinized on earth--hundreds of international election monitors, including the Carter Center, all of whom confirmed honest, verifiable elections.

It reminds me of Ahmed Chalabi feeding lies about Iraq WMDs to NYT fantasist Judith Miller, so that Condi Rice can get on "Meet the Press" and say, "According to the New York Times...".

The public record and press reports. Loop de loop. (Garbage in, garbage out.)
