Camp Humphreys soldier found guilty of beating S. Korean woman

PYONGTAEK, South Korea — A U.S. Army sergeant based at Camp Humphreys was found guilty Wednesday of beating a local woman last winter — but not guilty of trying to abduct her.

Sgt. Jeffrey Gray, 37, of the 46th Transportation Company was sentenced to reduction in pay grade from E-5 to E-3, forfeiture of $820 per month for three months, and three months of hard labor without confinement.

Prosecutors charged that Gray then got out of the car and tried to force her into the vehicle. That led to the attempted kidnapping charge on which the jury found him not guilty. He then punched and kicked her, leading to the assault charge, the prosecution said.

Gray lives off-post with his wife, who attended the trial Wednesday, and children. The victim since has moved from the area, the prosecution said.
