Marine Injured In Iraq Dies After Feeding Tube Removed (#1828)
http://www.channel3000.com/news/4812652/detail.html

MADISON, Wis. -- A Monona Marine injured in Iraq has died.

Saff Sgt. Chad Simon died Thursday afternoon. He suffered a brain injury when he was injured by a roadside bomb in Fallujah last November.

He was moved to hospice care in Fitchburg last month, and had his feeding tube removed two weeks ago.

His wife Regina says she was carrying out the wishes of his living will.

There is no word at this time when or where memorial services will be held.

1. And what do you wanna bet
he won't be counted as an Iraq death since he died here in the states?

3. I guess his widow will be lucky if Frist and the Bush Goon Squad don't
accuse her of murder.

Let's hope the poor woman isn't victimized for following her husband's wishes.

R.I.P.

Bring the troops home!

15. This will bearly hit the radar...
There are no waring families, no money at stake and no media circus.

AKA no story other than some poor soldier lost his life in morons* fucked up war. According to the MSM that's not news any more.

Rest in peace.

IF they have private insurance they are worth saving.
However, if they are on the governments dime....let em go.

5. Is that true?---that he will not be counted in the war dead? Seems to
me these are counted--but maybe I have misinformation.

that soldiers taken away from Iraq who die elsewhere are not counted as fatalities.

11. This is disinformation. They are definitely counted.
The myth of 'uncounted' dead troops has been debunked many times on DU and elsewhere.

19. Whoa, there Nellie.....don't get your reins in a knot
Seem a little quick to jump on the OP

1) With this administration at the helm, I think it's perfectly PLAUSIBLE to suspect those who die outside of Iraq might not be counted in the casualty list.

2) I have wondered about this myself. Depsite it being "debunked several times on DU," I must have missed those threads and so I still had questions about that until I read THIS thread.

24. Counting the dead
If you die of combat related injuries you are counted as a combat related fatality. This is done for several reasons. Death benefits, burial as opposed to cremation at Arlington National Cemetery. The awarding of medals posthumously. Many of the dead have died in Germany at Ramstien and some have died stateside.

20. Regarding fatality counts.
My local paper has been running a reprint of front pages from each year of the 20th century for a while now. It got up to 1973 this weekend, and there was an article about the last U.S. troops leaving Viet Nam that year. The article claimed there had been 46,000 deaths, which is 12,000 short of the commonly accepted figure of 58,000. So, I think there is precedent for a "short tally" during hostilities. It is just a historical analogy though.
