Disabled Russian sub towed to shallower waters
VLADIVOSTOK, Russia - A Russian rescue vessel managed to hook a cable onto a disabled mini-submarine and was towing it to shallower waters, the commander of Russia's Pacific Fleet was quoted as saying Friday.

The Interfax news agency said Adm. Viktor Fyodorov announced that the rescue vessel also was trying to raise the vessel as it was being towed.

Officials earlier struggled with how to rescue the sub and its 7 sailors, enlisting the aid of the United States and Britain, which were sending their own unmanned rescue subs.

3. US Navy has a team enroute with a SCORPIO (two, actually)
They just left, in fact. If the Russkies cannot get them, that will make it easier for the Scorpio to go down and give them air while they figure out how to get them up to the surface without suffering brutal bends.

Supposedly, the Russkies got ahold of the US Naval Attache in a real hurry this time, which makes the outcome a bit more hopeful.

4. Hope they can get them out right away. That would be terrifying.
I saw one tiny article in google which said they should have enough air until August 8, although the others claim they've only got enough for 24 hours.

Sure hope they make it.
