http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L06294153.htm

<snip>

BAQUBA - One policeman was killed and another wounded when gunmen in two cars sprayed a police checkpoint with machinegun fire near the town of Baquba, police said.

BAGHDAD - A suicide car bomber wounded three Iraqis, two of them women, when he blew himself up near a U.S military convoy in the east of the capital, an Interior Ministry source said.

HADITHA - U.S. and Iraqi troops patrolled Haditha on the third day of Operation Quick Strike, an offensive by about 1,000 troops against insurgents in the Euphrates Valley. A key bridge at Haditha had been blown up by U.S. forces, witnesses said, and soldiers raided homes. Waleed al-Hadithi, a doctor at Haditha hospital, said he had seen three civilians killed in military operations and five wounded, including two girls. 1. Isn't it normally an insurgency that would blow up bridges?
Just wondering...

2. The US Occupiers are blowing up Houses as well...

Local residents say that U.S. troops placed explosives in the house to bring it down as it was suspected to be used by insurgents for planning strikes against U.S. and Iraqi troops in the area. 3. Oh, they've been blowing up "insurgent safe houses" for years. It seems
the strategy there is "if you let insurgents operate in your area, we'll blow you up and call you insurgents" - simple reprisal killings, in other words.

Bridges, though: that's new, isn't it (at least since the invasion itself)? And fairly indicative of who is in control of that area, I'd have thought

5. I heard on the radio yesterday that the U.S. was responding
to gunfire from buildings with air strikes. SO, A guy shoots $5.00 worth of ammo out a window and we respond with a $1,000,000 air strike that originates from an Aircraft carrier. This war is corporate welfare, plan and simple.

6. more work for haliburton and crew
when you blow up the infrastructure.

why would the insurgents care if you blow up a bridege -- like that will slow them down.

i don't think they are in a hurry -- they have all the time in the world to kill u.s. soldiers.

7. Suicide car bomb hits US military convoy in Baghdad
BAGHDAD, Aug. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- A suicide car bomb hit a US military convoy in southeastern Baghdad on Saturday, wounding three civilians, police said.

"A suicide bomber drove an explosive-laden vehicle into a US convoy and blew it up at about 9:50 a.m. (0550 GMT) on the highway that passes through Ne'iriyah neighborhood," a police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The attack wounded three civilians, but it was not clear whether there was any casualty among US troops as US troops cordoned off the area, the source said.

14. Worse than that, the attacks were "coordinated".
Like I said yesterday, it's eerily like they have human intelligence.
Who could have expected that?

I do think it's nice of them to acknowledge our dead for a change,
and I will not say what I think of the "people" that make these policies.

10. U.S., Iraqi troops repel coordinated attacks
---

The fighting began about 8 p.m. Friday when insurgents attacked an Iraqi army position with mortar rounds and small-arms fire, the command said. U.S. attack helicopters engaged the insurgents with rockets and gunfire.

At nearly the same time, a suicide attacker drove a truck loaded with explosives into a nearby Iraqi army checkpoint, killing an Iraqi soldier.

A suicide car bomber tried to attack another Iraqi position in the area, but a U.S. tank fired and hit the car, killing the driver and causing the car bomb to explode prematurely, the U.S. command said. Iraqi police said three bystanders were wounded.

Minutes later, insurgents at a fourth location fired two rocket-propelled grenades and a mortar round at another Iraqi army post in south Baghdad. None of the rounds caused any damage, the U.S. statement said.

11.  British soldier shot
LONDON, Aug 6 (KUNA) -- An Iraq-based British soldier was injured Saturday when his patrol came under fire in one of the main streets of the Southern Iraqi town of Basra, the British Defense Department said.

A spokesman for the department said the patrol consisted of two vehicles, which came under fire in the northern outskirts of Basra.

The injured soldier was taken to a nearby field hospital, the spokesman said.

He added, although nothing was reported about the kind of injury the soldier sustained, the patrol was targeted by a roadside bomb.
