JASON LEOPOLD: Halliburton Sold Iranian Co Key Nuclear Parts, Sources Say
Edited on Sat Aug-06-05 02:50 PM by Tace
By Jason Leopold -- World News Trust

Scandal-plagued Halliburton -- the oil services company once headed by Vice President Cheney -- sold an Iranian oil development company key components for a nuclear reactor, say Halliburton sources with intimate knowledge into both companies’ business dealings.

Halliburton was secretly working at the time with one of Iran’s top nuclear program officials on natural gas related projects and sold the components in April to the official's oil development company, the sources said.

Just last week, a National Security Council report said Iran was a decade away from acquiring a nuclear bomb. That time frame could arguably have been significantly longer if Halliburton, whose miltary unit just reported a 284 percent increase in its second quarter profits due to its Iraq reconstruction contracts, was not actively providing the Iranian government with the means to build a nuclear weapon.

With Iran's new hardline government now firmly in place, Iranian officials have rounded up relatives and close business associates of Iran's former President and defeated mullah presidential candidate Hashemi Rafsanjani, alleging the men were involved in widespread corruption of Iran's oil industry, specifically tied to the country's business dealings with Halliburton.

Because her cover company and people she was working with were connecting the dots -- and Cheney's company was going to come out looking like the evil monster we all assume it to be.

That article underscores what's been a duplicitous decades long business plan by Halliburton to war profiteer.

Like Carlyle Group, they've made a cynical, cyclical-proof business in construction/destruction/reconstruction. The new Republican business model.

The traffic on the WNT site is up ten-fold the last 30 hours because of this story.

Dozens of sites have linked to the story. What's really cool is that many of the sites are not political sites. There's a knitting site, a pro-sports site, several techie sites, a site for guys building hot-rods, etc.

On a side note, it's mind boggling to think about the number of real criminal investigations that could be launched in order to restore the proper conduct of Justice (ie. with honesty being their only sound base). The courts could be packed for years...

And if this is true(which I don't doubt for a second)than halliburton could be setting up Iran like poppy bush did saddam in 1991(yeah, I believe it).

13. This is evil
Cheney now can claim that because they got these things, their program is far enough along that we should attack them. (Shades of Iran/contra sales of weapons to Iran while we were supplying Iraq - in the Iran/Iraq war.

Iraq - gassed people with gas that Rumsfeld and Bush 1 provided
making them so evil we needed regime change

Iran - is getting nuclear weapons with Halliburrton's help ....

15. Iran’s top nuclear negotiator faces charges over Halliburton ties
Iran’s top nuclear negotiator faces charges over Halliburton ties Fri. 29 Jul 2005
Iran Focus

Tehran, Iran, Jul. 29 – Iran’s judiciary has arrested several executives of a privately-owned oil drilling company over their dealings with the U.S.-based oil giant Halliburton and one of the country’s top nuclear negotiators is facing charges of involvement in an oil scam, a semi-official news agency reported.

Fars News Agency said Mehrdad Safdari, chairman of the Board of Directors of Oriental Oil Kish, and several of his collegues are being interrogated over the company’s trading.

A senior member of Iran’s nuclear negotiations team, Sirus Nasseri, is the vice-chairman of the Board of Directors of the oil company. The news agency said “a well-informed source” close to the investigation sharply criticized Iran’s “security and political agencies” for their “blatant weakness” in preventing Nasseri from dealing with Halliburton.

“The authorities must be particularly vigilant about the extensive economic activities of some of the country’s officials”, he said. The source noted that “Nasseri had access to the country’s most secret information as a member of Iran’s nuclear negotiations team and was at the same time dealing directly with the American company, Halliburton, which used to be run by Dick Cheney”.

21. the u.s. through the gov -- or through it's corporate representatives
are always selling weapons to tyrants, ''enemies'', whatever.

this is no surprise -- it has vague reminders of rumsfeld and sadaam.

all this does is underscore the greed -- the corporate maneuvering -- that is the real motivating factor in our government today.

ya know all of a sudden the word ''purge'' just popped into my mind.
i mean what ever happened to the movement to clean corporate influence out of gov?

32. I am so sick of it all...
These evil bastards, the damage they do, they lives they destroy, the lives they ruin; I am sick of average Americans being so overworked that they don't have the time or energy to find out what's going on, so they vote for the guy with the smoothest line, they guy who sounds all moral, and for family values, and all the rest of it.

I am sick of it being some of us against the rest of us, while the power players rake in the bucks and laugh, and watch while the rest of us divide into camps and destroy each other, leaving the upper class untouched.

I am sick of it all.

35. Cocky if you ask me.
They figure they'll get away with the Halliburton ties for a real long while, (cuz most "believers" say Cheney has nothing to do with Halliburton anymore anyway) and this is the perfect debunk for the "Iran won't have weapons for a decade". There you go.

One thing that still doesn't fit with this is, last night's Friday night dumper that the US backs the EU proposal for Iran to continue with nuke power plants as long as they follow the guidelines as displayed in the proposal.

And didn't Iran say the EU agreement is unacceptable like seven or so days ago??? this doesn't make sense...

The US backs a proposal AFTER it was REJECTED by Iran??? it's all so freakin' convoluted!

They will have extremely accurate intelligence once they start beating the drums of war. Sales Receipts from Halliburton. Doesn't get much more accurate than that ! (although Halliburton loves them some "creative accounting" and "fuzzy maths")

"But we know they've got WMDs !"
