Blacks in US Congress united against 87 billion for Iraq
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20031015/pl_afp/us_politics_race&cid=1521&ncid=1480

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Some three dozen African-Americans in the US Congress are opposed to the White House request for 87 billion dollars to stabilize Iraq and Afghanistan, saying that the funds are needed in disadvantaged communities across the United States.

"This request has been made at a time when we have yet to rebuild America's schools and other critical infrastructure" said Elijah Cummings, chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, at a press conference.

Members of the group said they were troubled that the White House has failed to provide answers to questions submitted by lawmakers on the specifics of the funding request, which further consolidated their opposition to the spending measure.

"We are of one voice on our response to this request for 87 billion," said Representative Maxine Waters a California Democrat in the group.

2. Bernie Sanders, Dennis Kucinich, and the Congressional Black
Caucus are on the same page.

What does this tell us about the state of our party?

once again. I wish our government were filled with men and women with even HALF of the convictions represented and upheld by the members of The Black Caucus.

7. Acting like real Democrats! I wonder what it would take to find a
way for the Black Caucus to take over management of the entire Party. I'd go for that...!

but I have a feeling when Vice President Mosely-Braun comes into office, they will have a sympathetic ear.

10. Where would we be?
Where would we be without the loud and crystal clear voices of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Kucinich-led Progressive Caucus? In these times, they are true American heroes.

16. No. Not a racist. Just deluded and enabling SmirkCo
to continue his drive to dominate the Middle East with illegal and immoral invasions of sovereign nations.

That's all. :-)

15. True Americans all
My hat is off to these courageous patriots, a word that should be reserved for statesmen like these who will suffer outrage at the hands of the neo-cons, Faux, and racist pricks, for doing what is right for the country and for the world.

I salute the black caucus.

...is worth any effort just to put many members of the CBC into positions of real power, chairs of the committees.

Something to dream about.

22. CBC has always been out there fighting for us
It's the party that doesn't back them and that's shameful. I will never forget the brave actions of the CBC after the 2000 election coup. If only one single Democratic Senator had stood with them things might have gone a lot differently for this country. The CBC represents me 100% better than the DLC.

23. They fight for everyone who is kicked by the system
The Democratic party never has supported them. Remember the 2000 election when they alone wanted to challenge the outcome and not one Democratic member of Congress voted with them. Maybe one. If our Congressional Dems had had enough guts Bush might not be in office today.

25. It broke my heart when I moved...
I was in Sheila Jackson-Lee's district in Houston, and moved to a rural area, and am currently represented by some Repuke whose name I refuse to learn, because I abhor the thought of even saying it. I wish other congress members would have the same courage and integrity as the CBC.
