Bush To Sign Massive Energy Bill
Bill Would Provide Tax Credits For Hybrid Cars, Home Energy Improvements

(AP) CRAWFORD, Texas President Bush is doing something he has wanted to do for four years: sign legislation that marks a major overhaul of the nation's energy policies.

Bush is to sign the 1,724-page bill Monday in New Mexico, home of Republican Sen. Pete Domenici, a driving force in getting the measure passed with bipartisan support last month. The measure ended a yearlong congressional standoff over energy policy.

The ceremony at Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque begins a week of events meant to highlight the president's legislative successes and underscore economic and national security issues.

....

But even the bill's sponsors acknowledged the legislation will have little, if any impact, on today's energy prices or wean the nation away from its thirst for oil.

2. If you read the bill, the giveaway is not just to oil companies
It's a pork festival with big giveaways to a broad assortment of players in alternative energy, too. Farmers love the biofuels handouts (nevermind that it takes more energy to grow biofuels than they yield). Handouts to tech companies for R&D they're already doing on their own dime. Even Jane Sixpack gets a massive handout if she wants to buy a hybrid vehicle. Nice. Let's all get the government to pay us to buy a car that would be too expensive to afford otherwise. Cuz they just print money, right?

Read the bill. Something for everyone...everyone in Congress, that is.

Peace.

3. Wheee! I get to buy a hybrid, then.
Not. I'm keeping my 11-year-old Subaru, driving as little as possible, and trying to save for my retirement, if that day ever comes.

FUGWB. Oh. And FU Congress, too.

5. Why don't we just have a giant Pork Barrel bill each year...
This way, we get all the bullshit crooked crap out of the way. No more attaching riders. Instead of trying to call a bill something it's not,we call it, the free give-away bill. Every asshole senator and their uncle can attach any free loading bullshit special item to it and then we move on.

God, I hate them.

colossal failure*

6. We already have one of those
It's called the Defense Authorization Act.

Get one and pick out ALL the shit in it that has nothing to do with the Department of Defense. You'll be astounded.
