Judge Supports Charges Vs. DeLay Colleagues

Wednesday August 10, 2005 2:01 AM

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A state district judge on Tuesday refused to
dismiss charges of money laundering and accepting illegal political
contributions against two associates of U.S. House Majority Leader
Tom DeLay.

Judge Bob Perkins denied arguments from attorneys for John Colyandro
and Jim Ellis that the charges were based on an unconstitutionally
vague law and that the indictments were improperly worded.

The attorneys said they would appeal, a move that likely would delay
any trial for several months.

The charges stem from the 2002 Texas legislative elections. Colyandro
worked for DeLay's fundraising committee Texans for a Republican
Majority, and Ellis worked for Americans for a Republican Majority.

The money laundering charges are based on $190,000 in corporate money
that was sent to the Republican National State Elections Committee.
That committee then gave the same amount of money in donations to
seven Texas House candidates.

5. Good!
The charges shouldn't be dismissed. Of course they'll delay it. Maybe we should demand an up or down vote. Is he guilty or not??

6. This is good news
Even with the expected appeal this should be tried well before the 2006 elections, much to their displeasure.

Tom (The Bugman) DeLay, is the stress getting to you yet?

9. You mean that DeLay's lawyers...
are trying to get one of those "activist judges" to "legislate from the bench" to cover his sorry ass?

What a flip-flopper. And a crook. I hope he gets 100 years.

12. And, hopefully he can rid prison of cockroaches, wait. . . he wasn't even
that good of a bugguy was he? Well, I think a sewer or rat hole would be better, at least he would be with the things he tried to kill or least with similar human waste.
