San Salvador, Aug 10 (Prensa Latina) The parliamentary opposition, humanitarian organizations and the Catholic Church in El Salvador have all strongly criticized the administration´s decision to send a 380-strong military contingent to Iraq on Thursday.
The Cuscatlan V Battalion will replace a similar contingent deployed in the city of Al Hilla, located 62 miles south of Baghdad.
Although El Salvador has described its military presence in Iraq as humanitarian, members of the progressive Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) said their forces "have nothing to do in that country."
FMLN deputy Manuel Melgar said most Salvadorians condemned a Salvadorean military presence in Baghdad because they are part of an occupation force led by the US.
