Halliburton accused of overcharging US taxpayers in Iraq
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20031016/ts_alt_afp/us_iraq_halliburton_031016065758

This is at Yahoo, remember to rate it.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - A leading US oil and gas service company with close links to Vice President Richard Cheney was accused of overcharging US taxpayers for gasoline it is importing into Iraq (news - web sites).

The charge, leveled by Democratic Congressmen Henry Waxman and John Dingell, came amid an increasingly passionate debate in Congress over President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s request for 87 billion dollars to pay for military operations and reconstruction projects in Iraq and Afghanistan (news - web sites).

The Houston, Texas-based Halliburton corporation is apparently overcharging the US government between 65 and 75 cents for every gallon of gasoline it sells in Iraq, Waxman and Dingell said in a letter to White House budget director Joshua Bolten.

"The overcharging by Halliburton is so extreme that one expert has privately called it 'highway robbery,'" Waxman and Dingell wrote in the letter.

of these crooks going to be held accountable under the LAW!!!!!

Unbelievable. Occassionally they'll fire someone and pay a fee for these HUGE sums that were stolen, but no other punishment is forthcoming. Meanwhile the guy that robs the five and dime store is tossed in the brink for 10 years or more!!!!!!

So not only are the peoples' taxes raised while the Treasury gets looted and Rumsfeld finds hiding places for Pentagon funds, but they also have to pick up the tab for these thieves.

10. They should yank the Helliburton contracts IMMEDIATELY!
It sounds as if we have some dems regaining their spines. Hopefully this pattern of the walls crumbling around the misadministration will continue! The corruption is deep. Maybe Georgie boy will be told no for the first time in his life...bye bye 20 billion for Helliburton:thumbsup:

12. Time to call your Congressman and Senators
Watched House Rules Committee on C-SPAN this a.m. and was appalled to hear the Demo's attempt to have amendments added to Bush's request for $87-billion for the military - (what a joke). Demo's requested: accountability of where the dollars are going, increased benefits for those reservists that have been gone from civilian jobs for more than 90-days, accountability of supplies to the troops, etc., etc., etc. All requests were defeated by the Repubs stating they would have time to debate them on the House floor - another joke. In the midst of all this undebate, the Chairman (I think was Drier,(sp)CA), requested the baseball scores.
44,000 troops are without teflar vests, yet these high priced ghouls sit around a table making light of $84-billion dollars and more concerned about a baseball game.

Congress will be voting on this today and the Senate soon after. Call your Reps and put the word out. This is how you "support the troops" and your grandkids future.
