IED, Small-Arms Fire Claim Five Soldiers' Lives in Iraq (1843)
http://www.defenselink.mil/news/Aug2005/20050810_2384.html
WASHINGTON, Aug. 10, 2005 – An improvised explosive device blast killed four U.S. soldiers Aug. 9 near Bayji, Iraq, as their patrol was investigating reported explosions in the area.
The patrol came under small-arms fire after the explosion. Five Task Force Liberty soldiers and one U.S. contractor were injured in the attack.

Also on Aug. 9, a soldier assigned to the 2nd U.S. Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), was killed by small-arms fire near Habbaniyah, Iraq. Several U.S. Army units are attached to the 2nd MEF (Forward) during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Keep waiting Cindy and others. Make him answer.

7. The third worst month since we started this ugliness
March '03 was the worst per day average and April '04 was the second worst. This is a very close third, by about a quarter person per day.

Something's brewing, eh what?

6. These are now Viet Nam levels
Once you adjust for the fact that there are about 150,000 troops in Iraq rather than the 500,000 at the Viet Nam peak, 4 to 5 deaths per day (over 100 per month) are quite comparable to the 100 per week experienced in Viet Nam in the 1967 or 1968 period.

Bush certainly seems less troubled than LBJ did, though.
