Venezuela-Uruguay sign 25 year oil deal
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 09:02 AM by bemildred
Venezuela will guarantee Uruguay’s oil supply for the next 25 years as part of an energy deal that also includes providing fuel to other countries in the region.

"We are going to support our Uruguayan brothers and the government of President Tabare Vazquez; we are determined to broaden our relations and do business together", said President Chavez Wednesday in Montevideo following the signing of several joint bilateral accords.

---

Uruguay imports all the oil it consumes, approximately 50,000 barrels a day and Venezuela is the world's fifth-leading oil exporter and fourth US supplier.

Presidents Vázquez and Chavez also announced work had started on a "strategic alliance" to drill for oil in Venezuela's so-called Orinoco strip.

2. What Chavez is doing is smart.. he's solidifying friendships
with his fellow South Americans..and keeping the oil "in the family" so to speak.. Eventually he will have contracts for enough friends, they we won't be able to even GET any..it will all be committed to others.. I hope his bodyguards are on their toes..

I can actually see him kicking out all americans at some point.. he may need to do it, in order to get things corrected in Venezuela. CIA meddlers will not be "very helpful" to his plans.

4. See, Chavez is a real uniter...
and diplomat. I especially love what he did in giving land to the rightful owners, the indigenous population.

5. Good point
As Chavez pursues this course, the threat of a US invasion simultaneously increases and becomes harder to effect.

It won't be many moons from now that Democrat and Republican pols alike will be blathering about the "danger" from Venezuela. Perhaps Hillary or even Biden will be the one to liberate the oil held so ruthlessly captive from our deserving SUVs.

Then again, maybe they'll be facing a few hundred thousand Chinese "advisers" to Chavez by that time... ;-)

3. Look at the rise of South America.... from decades of very
sophisticated gentry who operated under the thumb of the U.S. and the World Bank while their farmers labored and the number of poor grew... things are turning around because of a new determination. However, the U.S. and the Moon cult seem to be taking over Paraguay. And Brazil still seems to be relleving their land of all the trees and growing cows instead. And drug lords still reign.
