Counter Clinton Library group folds
Counter Clinton Library group folds

DAVID HAMMER

Associated Press

LITTLE ROCK - A group that had hoped to build two museums to rebut the displays at the Clinton Presidential Library with strong support from former Georgia Republican congressman Bob Barr is folding.

"I'm giving up," said Houston businessman Richard Erickson, who established nonprofit Counterlibe Inc. last year to fund construction of a Counter Clinton Library in Little Rock and another in Washington.

"I was very passionate about this, but also very naive as far as fundraising procedures go," he wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

8. We win -- they lose...
... and we're getting so much better at fundraising than they are that maybe WE should fund our own "Library on Dishonest Counter Clintonians" in Little Rock.

IF Clinton had even come close to doing the shitload myriad stuff W has done, not only would he have been impeached, they would have literally tarred and feathered him, and rode him out of DC on a rail, live on national tv and satellite uplink for all to see.

Holy tap dancing jesus these people are delusional!

10. The guy in charge was made a fool of on the Daily Show
Considering that hardly anyone ever goes to presidential libraries, I can't imagine how they thought they were going to be successful with an anti-presidential one. Even most freepers aren't going to base a vacation around their hatred of Clinton. Besides, it's still technically a LIBRARY. That would just scare freepers away.

Rob Corddry interviewed one of the guys in charge and just made him look like an idiot. Amongst other things, the guy said that Clinton's Library should be spelled, "L-i-e-brary." Rob did the Daily Show schtick of not understanding by pointing out that he was misspelling it. Then Rob "got" the joke and laughed heartily, which fooled the guy into thinking he was safe so he continued the joke by saying, "And his book, 'My Life,' should have been called, 'My Lies.'" Once again, Rob didn't get it.

The highlight of it was when they were listing off the different rooms that were going to be in the library, and Rob asked if they were going to have something about how Clinton lied about weapons of mass destruction to get us into a war with Iraq. The guy looked crestfallen as he had to reply that that was George W. Bush who did that.

It might still be up on the Daily Show's website.

22. Actually, the Clinton Library is always packed with visitors.
I spent some time in Little Rock, and the place is always packed. I was going back every few weeks for a while (still do), and every time you drive by, you can see swarms of people through the beautiful glass front of the building.

The Big Dog had a lot of fans. Evidently, he still does.

51. Oh, I gave our local paper hell over their feature on that.
They printed a story titled "Class: She Has It" -- with a picture of that Kathy Hilton person. Mind you, this was the same publication that ran a photo of Paris Hilton in what looked like streetwalker garb.

Anyway, I sent an e-mail to them suggesting that a famous last name and a big bank account don't confer class, let alone prove competence or newsworthiness. One of their staffers called me to tell me a number of readers wrote in with the same point.

46. the IRS 501 regs really need tightening up
these 'non-partisan', 'educational', 'non-profits' are just too easy to set up for fun ... and, well ... 'profit' ... of course, contributions to this counter group were tax-deductible?

"granted status as a tax-exempt nonprofit organization"

http://www.counterclintonlibrary.com/cgi-data/news/files/22.shtml

next thing you know someone will try to start republican-lite tax exempt (non-profit but pay-out handsome salaries) organizations, call them a 3rd way or something, and declare they are the New Democratic Party, siphoning off funds from the DNC, and confusing the message ...

oops, that's being done

54. Actually, this should be investigated.... what really happened to the $$??
I would not be surprised if this was a front to funnel the donations elsewhere, probably illegally. Like in stealing elections!! All the while giving "tax deductions" to the doners.

For example, you may have a limit to what you can donate to function/candidate A. However, you can then donate to function B, C, D, etc. These functions can in turn donate to Candidate/Function A.

It's all a web of lies and deceit. The Ohio Coingate scandal is an excellent illustration of how they skirt the laws to keep the money flowing.

Economists would call this multiplier effect of money. I call it a perversion of our democracy!

I would add mention of this abject failure to the exhibit there.

It's certainly relevant, isn't it? And it would be a nice little stick in the eye of these anti-American hatemongers who failed in their attempt to defame the last legitimately elected president.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of losers.
