"Quick Strike" causes civilian casualties in western Iraq

BAGHDAD, Aug. 11 (Xinhuanet by Ran Wei, Abdul Rahman ) -- US forces ended a major military operation in the western restive Anbar province, while local residents said all they got is agony.

"US Marine forces from Regimental Combat Team-2 concluded Operation Quick Strike on Aug. 10," the US military said in a statement.

About 1,000 US marines and Iraqi forces launched the operation, dubbed Quick Strike, on Aug. 3 in the Euphrates River valley, where 14 marines were killed on the same day.

Local residents said Haditha and neighboring cities suffered a humanitarian crisis due to the military operation.

...reads these articles and wonders what America is really like. Then they read about a mother, whose son was killed in Iraq, trying to stop the madness and they get a glimpse of what America may be like.

But the overwhelming stories of so, so many dead Iraqis convinces them that America would do to them what America has done to the innocent Iraqis, so they cower in fear of America. Bush and his cronies have succeeded in scaring the rest of the world into a corner from which there is no retreat.

The only way to make them trust America once again is to leave Iraq now and repent for the mistakes we have made there, just like we did after Viet Nam.

To continue on the present course in Iraq is suicide. We are turning the whole world against us and they far out number us. I fear for my country.
