FBI Warned Police of Possible Terrorist Attacks in LA, NY, Chicago
http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGBG2Q4R9CE.html

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The FBI has warned police that al-Qaida cells might use fuel trucks as weapons to attack Los Angeles, New York and Chicago, but officials stressed Thursday the warning was based on uncorroborated intelligence.

The warning was distributed Tuesday via a computer network by FBI officials in Los Angeles to law enforcement agencies primarily in California, said FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.

Though intelligence bulletins usually describe how reliable the information is, this one carried no such statement.

If I was a terrorist and wished to set off a truck bomb in the USA, I'd pick a location where I'd rack up a whole lot of casualties in a red state or someplace very personal, someplace which would make Gee Dubya squirm.

72. Generalissimo Gee Dubya's Misunderestimation About al Qaeda
Generalissimo Gee Dubya "misunderestimated" al Qaeda's capabilities back in 2001. Whether al Qaeda is likely to smack a red state target or someplace out in the Permian Basin is less clear; as foreigners, and religiously-obsessed foreigners at that, al Qaeda looks likely to have another go at New York City, Washington, or possibly LA.

67. I agree....I believe if the Bush Cabal thinks another 9/11-like attack (or
worse than 9/11 in terms of casualties would help "rally American patriotism" behind Bush, I think they are delusional. In fact you are indeed correct, his ratings would go so far south that probably the only people remaining "loyal" to him would be the Jerry Falwell/James Dobson Extremist Rapture-Ready nut jobs, who represent no more than 10-15% of this country.

Next thing you know, the Bush Cabal will be challenging OBL and Terrorists to "Bring it On"....

63. I"m sure it's all
because it's the blue state. Come on! Those are our three biggest cities, and attacks in all three places would devestate all of American industry and commerce.

You think that the terrorists care if a state is blue or red? They weren't fans of Clinton, either. It's not like they embrace us democrats and revile the republicans. They just dislike us as Americans.

Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 09:24 PM by shance
How many times are we going to tolerate this?

I wouldn't take the threat lightly necessarily, especially when Administration officials are feeling backed up against a wall.

We need to call it for what it is though. They are threatening Americans.

Our Administration continues to make threats and this is WRONG.

A threat, that is becoming thinner and thinner veiled, and we cannot continue to tolerate it, let innocent people be scapegoated any longer.

Terrorists Will Likely Strike London's Financial District, Senior Police Official Says

LONDON (AP) - The police chief for London's financial district warned Wednesday that terrorists will likely strike the British capital's biggest business hub, where they have already surveyed targets in the area.
Nearly five weeks after four suicide bombers attacked London, killing themselves and 52 other people, James Hart said there was no specific intelligence about a forthcoming attack but insisted the district was at risk.

"We are vulnerable, there are people out there who wish us harm and we should be aware of that," the police chief told The Associated Press. "If you hit the financial center of the United Kingdom, it's a high-profile thing to do."

Asked if it was a question of when the financial district would be struck, rather than if, Hart replied: "Yes, I don't doubt that at all."

I mean.. think about it.. terrorists.. terror. What is the goal of a terrorist? "terror". So these vague warnings do jack shit for all of us (I mean what are we going to do? Stay away from fuel trucks?), and only give the terrorists what they want.. scaring the shit out of average people.

34. Someone talk me down
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 12:02 AM by shadowknows69
or back up from pit of depression I've fallen into today. seeing the clown king of crime standing just 5 miles from that brave woman today spewing the automated party line without even a hint of a disingenous attempt at empathy made me really blue and hopeless feeling. This war simply won't end while he and his ilk are in power and I don't see what legal recourse any of us have left. Particularly since all legal hopes for justice have been lost in corruption on both sides. Why are we going to have to see thousands of our soldiers die in the next 3 years. Most of which dutifully believe the hollow reasons for it. Otherwise how could they even carry out orders like the razing of Fallujah. This new tidbit doesn't help. We'll almost assuredly be wholsale slaughtering Iraninans by this time next year. Probably with nuclear fire. Not to get all metaphysical but sometimes I think this world has been lost to some dark and sinister force and there aren't enough of us with the light left to oppose it. We will be the authors of our own extinction where had we taken a different path ages ago we would have been Gods by now.

"What can men do against such reckless hatred"

37. On the CBS affiliate news in Houston...
they lead the news by saying...and I will admit, this is from memory, but the meaning is the same..."And finally, President Bush confronts a woman's grief at losing her son."

Naturally, I thought that on the couple of hours I hadn't been online, the little coward had actually been man enough to go out and talk to Cindy. No...they showed his canned speech, where he babbled about what some people felt, and apparently since he more or less acknowledged that Cindy exists, it was spun into him holding a face to face talk with her.

That, at least, is how it appeared to me. If anybody else caught the Channel 11 news this afternoon, maybe they can tell me what the announcer really said. I'm just giving the impression I was left with before I actually watched the segment.

38. There is no shame in despairing.
All of us feel or have felt it. No sane person can completely avoid despair in these dark days.

Maybe it helps that others have known it, too, and still carried on at times that appeared as bad or even worse than ours. W.H. Auden, for instance, on the eve of WWII...

Defenceless under the night
Our world in stupor lies;
Yet, dotted everywhere,
Ironic points of light
Flash out wherever the Just
Exchange their messages:
May I, composed like them
Of Eros and of dust,
Beleaguered by the same
Negation and despair,
Show an affirming flame.

They're having to extend the scale downwards to cover the new set of
"warnings" for this month from the original five-points:

- Definite attack
- Significant threat
- Possible threat
- Some risk
- Slight risk

to include a few new ones:

- Neglible risk
- You have got to be joking
- Absolutely fuck-all chance of anything happening
- Automatically triggered from Bush's approval rating

Hmmm 70,000 hits, but not what I was looking for. There was a spate of warnings last year about missing trucks being used for terrorist attacks, but they were almost all found. I probably missed something somewhere, because I'm using Yahoo, and not Google, which I know better (I can't connect ot google lately, for some reason)

55. certain major newspapers...

...are now saying that it would be an "anniversary attack".

That's a deviation from what this original story said, I'll note.

And we're not that dumb, are we?

59. The bastards can afford to burn FUEL????
Do they have any idea how freaking much a tank of GAS costs these days? Oh, and BTW, there might be a few casualties too...

(sarcasm off) I feel much better for having vented just a bit.

60. I think Bush is going to let another attack happen
I just feel it

Too much is not going the Neo-cons way these days. rove on the ropes and a possible indictment of Puppet George himself spells disaster for the American public.

Many folks here explored the thoery of LIHOP for 2 years and were finally dismissed as Tin-foilers. Next we might be saying those "who forget their past are doomed to live the future"

66. The Senators and Congress have figured out this Attack Distraction Tactic
The whole Congress and Senate have already figured out that to turn things around for the Bush Crime Mafia, they're going to have to manufacture another terrorists attack or HUGE HUGE distraction.

I'm sure the FBI and CIA have already been watching and listening for another distaster by the Bushes and will either leak intelligence or STOP IT ALL TOGETHER. They know how this bunch function!!!!!!

75. This is our greatest hope
That someone with authority to pull the whistle on these ****'s will do their duty as patriots and not look the other way this time!!!
That "drill" in Charleston must have quite the stew going on down there right now. It would be interesting to watch what's really going on, to see how many people that don't look like military drill types, what they're preparing, who they are calling. Please someone with authority -go down there and do your civic duty! Call someone!!!

73. One thing is for sure
the only way out of all this negative press for Bushco, IS
domestic crisis. If one happens, I think it will confirm tin
foil hats are necessary in this day and age. There is no way
to diffuse the crawford protest and the growing, glowing
support for her at the national press level.

If he leaves Crawford to rush to the country's call in
Washington, Cindy will be holding her hand on her ass waiting
for the next interview.

76. that's a possibility

I don't think al Qaeda is so dumb that they would use the same tactics again.

I believe I heard MSNBC saying that a weekend attack is a possibility.

65. TO KKKARL ROVE: WE HAVE FIGURED OUT YOUR TACTICS
KKKarl,

We have figured out THAT YOU MANUFACTURE DISTRACTIONS IN THE MEDIA TO DIVERT THE ATTENTION OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE FROM THE NEGATIVE BUSHIE HEADLINES.

We ARE NOT stupid. This is an old tactic and we have figured out how you function.

WE SEE THROUGH YOUR DISTRACTION TACTICS.

71. We kkkknow the drill...
Things looking bad? Try cranking the old fear generator. They fail to realize that its not working. The boy is crying wolf too often. At best they are covering their a***s. If they "warn" frequently enough, through random chance, they might be able to be in the neighborhood of the next attack. There was noreliability assessment because they kkknow its bs.
