A FAREWELL letter written by tragic Redcap Ben Hyde to his parents before he was murdered in Iraq was read out at his funeral yesterday.
Mourners listened in tears as the poignant words of the 23-year-old Lance Corporal echoed around the packed church.
Read by Padre Jonathan Ball, the letter began with the sad message: "Mum and dad, if you are reading this then you will know I won't be coming home."
Military policeman Ben had instructed the note to be opened on his death by parents John and Sandra. The young soldier wrote:
"I am up in the stars now looking down on you making sure that you are safe.
I am sorry for all the times I have been a (word obscured) but I know the good times outweighed the bad tenfold.
Thank you for being the best parents anyone could ever have wished for and you gave me everything I could ever have wanted and more.
