FBI Counterterror Head to Run New Division
Saturday August 13, 2005 3:31 AM
WASHINGTON (AP) - Gary Bald, the FBI's counterterrorism chief, was named director of the bureau's new National Security Service on Friday, a day after a senator sharply criticized his lack of experience and knowledge about the Mideast and terrorism.
Bald will run a division within the FBI that brings counterintelligence, counterterrorism and intelligence operations under one umbrella. The service was recommended by a presidential commission and adopted by President Bush.
``Gary Bald brings to this new position a wide range of operational and leadership experience, which he has demonstrated over nearly 28 years of service with the FBI,'' said FBI Director Robert Mueller.
