Bush ties Iraq to fight on terror

US President George W. Bush has repeated his belief that the war in Iraq and the war on terror are one and the same and vowed not to pull US troops from Iraq until the country is stable.

In his weekly radio address, Bush noted that Iraqi leaders are finishing a constitution despite recent violence against US troops and Iraqis alike.

"Iraqis are taking control of their country, building a free nation that can govern itself, sustain itself, and defend itself," he said. And we're helping Iraqis succeed."

"We're hunting down the terrorists and training the security forces of a free Iraq so Iraqis can defend their own country. And when that mission of defeating the terrorists in Iraq is complete, our troops will come home to a proud and grateful nation," he said.

5. You cannot win the "war on terra" attacking and invading COUNTRIES
You are fighting an IDEA, not a COUNTRY. Where is the country of ALQEADA?????

These cells are EVERYWHERE. Look at the bombings in Britain by second and third generation BRITS.

They just don't get it. Besides which, as even Colin Powell said, "You break it, you FIX IT."

7. Yeah, right..........
"Iraqis are taking control of their country, building a free nation that can govern itself, sustain itself, and defend itself," he said.

What he failed to mention was, "as long as they do what we tell them". The Iraqis are free to have any form of government they want, elect whom they wish, enact all the laws they need.......as long as they're approved by the bush administration first. :eyes: The Iraqis can see through this like glass. It doesn't matter when we leave Iraq, as soon as we do there will be a civil war for the REAL soul of the country. Our puppet government will not be acceptable to Iraqis, but they do it for now just to get us the hell out of their country. After that, all bets are off.

Bush: Iraqis 'Are Taking Control of Their Country'
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Aug. 13, 2005 – As they complete a draft democratic constitution by the Aug. 15 deadline, Iraq's elected leaders are taking "a critical step on the path to Iraqi self-reliance," President Bush said today during his weekly radio address.
In so doing, "Iraqis are taking control of their country," he said.

Bush noted Iraqi voters are slated to approve or disapprove the document during an Oct. 15 referendum.

Despite continued insurgent violence, the Iraqi people are "building a free nation," he pointed out, "that can govern itself, sustain itself and defend itself."

16. Bush is right, without intending to being so!
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 05:14 PM by IndianaGreen
The Iraqis will have their own government in place. It will anti-democratic, anti-Western, pro-Islamist, and virulent anti-Israel.

Thank you Mister Bush for bringing about the very things you said you were against.

Our troops died for an Islamic Republic!

13. What will happen when they decide that the only way to avert any
more terror from the U.S. will be to get some new_clue_year weapons of their own just like the rest of the countries who haven't been hit on by george and his cabal.

Iraq is on its way to becoming a Shia majority led nation just like her sister next door. This will be an interesting century to be sure.

they are taking control, all right, but not in the way he expected them to

the illegal replacement of the Bagdhad's mayor by armed shiites is only the latest example

17. Even If This New Constitution Works
Even if this new constitution works (And the jury is still out on this), the next Iraqi looks to be at least partially theocratic, allied to Iran, and anti-American--and that's only if the new Iraqi state pulls its socks up.

When all is said and done, even if the US achieves its current objective--that of creating a stable Iraqi state, the US will have failed in its goals when Generalissimo Gee Dubya sent in the troops in 2003.

Over 2000 US fatalities, thousands more maimed, tens of thousands of Iraqis dead, tens of thousands more also maimed--and for what? The average Iraqi now has reason to hate us and there's no Iraqi Somoza or Trujillo ready and willing to step in and toady to GOP/corporate interests.

I hope that even those Republicans who haven't turned off their brains and handed over their cogitating over to the likes of James Dobson and Tom DeLay are finally beginning to see what sort of international disaster they bought into when they voted for Buckaroo Bush and his fellow Republicans.

God have mercy on our country the United States of America. Even those self-identified Holy Joes lack the wisdom to see what a disaster that's been foisted on us and how they helped uphold and maintain those criminal fools in power.

20. My speculation on the spin
Somehow, I don't think that "It's all Bill Clinton's fault!" is going to catch on with most of the electorate. Of course this last presidential election taught me just how wrong I could be.

I wonder if taking control is shown by the Mayor of Baghdad
giving up his office to gun toting Shi ite thugs saying take it
is yours. We have no water, no power, no jobs, and the thugs
run everything.

The little baby Iraqis are learning to walk - maybe, even eat solid food. What would they have done without all the big Americans who went there are showed them how to live like "civilized" people? Yippee! Go Bush!

A Muslim government would be against US corporate interests.

What do you think BushCo would do to "keep" Iraq?
