Bush attends Little League championship

Associated Press

WACO, Texas - President Bush relived some of his childhood Saturday night when he attended a Little League playoff game near his ranch.

The world's most powerful former Little Leaguer watched several innings while players from Bryant, Ark., and Lafayette, La., competed for the southwestern regional championship.

Bush welcomed the players, coaches and families to Texas from the pitcher's mound. He then threw out the ceremonial first pitch and watched from behind home plate with the first lady and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"Play hard, play fair, play to win," he said. "God bless you all and may God continue to bless our great country."

31. "Bush welcomed the players, coaches and families...
...to Texas from the pitcher's mound, since the Secret Service wouldn't allow him to get any closer to his subjects. He then threw out the ceremonial first exploding frog and watched from way behind home plate with the first lady and future first lady Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice."

All this is, of course, is to show that he's really just a good ol' boy and likes baseball, Mom, apple pie, and exploding frogs and that he's really the kinda guy you'd like to have a beer with. Uh huh.

Personally, he's the last person on earth I'd want to be around after he's ingested some alcohol. I've just got this feeling that he's a mean drunk, y'know?

7. It's too bad he wasn't sitting someplace else.
I mean, if he was sitting behind the 1B dugout, and you were playing shortstop...wouldn't you just have to let one fly during warmups.

"Oops! Sorry about beanin' ya, Mr. President."

14. As the war of nerves ratchets up.....
As Bush Blesses the Little League teams by invoking God, the crowd sits in the stands.

This is a new feeling for them. This is a very small town; they all drove by the war protesters down the road. They all saw Cindy Sheehan's group as they drove by. Some are for her, some are against her.

But not a single one of them can ignore the crosses. I think the war protesters have set up 1,700 crosses, with names of the dead and everything. Even flowers.

Bush saw them, too. They're making him dizzy. Here he sits, with parents and kids, grandparents, aunts and uncles. And there are 1,700 memorials of young people who died under Bush's watch. They all know it. There's a deafening silence in the stands, now. There's an eerie quiet that descends on Crawford, as the quiet crowd sits and thinks about what has happened this week.

In all his 58 years, George Bush has never had to deal with the fallout from his actions. Until now. And his past is edging up, closer. Closer. The parents in the stands know it. They don't want this to happen to their own kids. Bush knows this is too close for comfort. He wants to leave. Wants to go home, to the icy cold air-conditioned comfort of his elegant mansion. With his supporters, his Yes-Men. At least They respect him.

the meetings. She's pathetic. Zero social life except for hanging with the chimp. Last time she and chimp went to a ballgame, Pickles wasn't around. Interesting that she dragged her ass out of the house to keep an eye on them.

Interesting, too, that he has time for little leaguers and big donors, but his schedule just won't permit a few minutes with Cindy. Major league asshole.

22. Little League promotes in-group, out-group provincialism
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 02:16 AM by oscar111
by being a competition game.
{provincialism is "us against them". Named for ... being a supporter of a province {small group} and not a member of all humanity}
Opposite is humanist. "One for all and all for one".

baseball is a ranking game too. "play to win". Disgusting. To have ranks, some must be made into loosers.

both unhealthy. Especially for the very young.

competition should be replaced by co-operation games... some exist.
One is a group trying to push overhead, ... a huge inflated ball to a goal. No opposing team.. not sure how it is played.

competition needs LOOSERS. Leads to economies with homeless people.. and leads to nations that compete via war.

in sum, competition promotes the emotions of war. Some have written a sea of ink about how football and baseball are tribal war in disguise. True.

Havent we had enough of war?

co-ops are the better choice in games, and in economics, and world politics.
