Harris rejects GOP doubters

Katherine Harris campaigned for the U.S. Senate across Florida, confronting the ghosts of 2000, her party's reluctance to embrace her and jokes about her makeup.

BRANDON - U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris is holding court in a crowded Republican Party headquarters in a strip mall east of Tampa, fielding questions from an enthusiastic crowd, eager to hear her thoughts on abortion, gay marriage and stem cell research.

Then, from the back of the room comes the inevitable: ``How do you plan on dealing with people still mad about the 2000 election?''

The immaculately groomed woman in the perfectly tailored suit smiles. ''Do you think anybody will be?'' she asks coyly. ''We simply followed the law.'' Her audience applauds, delighted at the response from Florida's former secretary of state.

Though Harris herself doesn't bring up the contentious aftermath of the presidential election that propelled her from an obscure state official to international Republican icon, it's never far from the surface as she embarks on her latest campaign: a quest to oust incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson.

He couldn't have asked for a better opponent. Jeb's mistress will galvanize Dems and Independents who were screwed by her in the 2000 debacle.

If she is that close before campaigning even starts, does it mean Nelson is going down??? I'd like to know what stats are really out there on this race because I'm sure the media will pick whichever one promotes the regime.
