Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 01:45 PM by Podface
Cnn reporting that the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel in DC, not far from the White House is being evacuated. Officials say they have credible info that a bomb is in the basement. Local Police and FBI is on the scene.

Reported at 2:12 PM on CNN.

Fox is reporting that they are indeed working on a bomb. They have blockied off a much larger area than would normally be expected. 3 Block s that surround the hotel.

Faux now reporting that is was a fake bomb. OK, I call BULLSHIT!

It wasn't that long ago that the hysteria was fed by 'reports' that (so-called) terrorists had a plan to take rooms in hotels and pack them with explosives. So, how did they get to the basement?

54. Please don't say that
The Mayflower is a beautiful, historic place. It's a one of a kind. I cannot stand the thoughts someone would even think about blowing it up.

This is where John F. Kennedy used to meet his trysts and the Secret Service would stand guard. No one publicly talked about his "meet-ups" there and no one threatened to impeach him over these trysts. I told you it was historical!

It's really a grand old place, and DC would not be the same without it.

If they disabled a real bomb, wouldn't it be better to say it was fake? Tourism would suffer and some people would freak if it was real. The idea of terrorism once again being actively pursued on American soil is not a good thing for the American comfort level.

I find it hard to believe that it was a hoax. What would it possibly achieve?

If something else pops up soon, I'm sure the story will change.

31. Kaczynski's ghost?
Look at us jump! You know, had we not created the environment that nurtured terrorism, we wouldn't have to jump. When will people ever learn to think about the results of their actions? The answer lies in the media. We were never informed about the things that were being done by corporations, around the world, in our name. Boo! Jump!
Let's turn it around. Let's have a kindler and gentler new world order, for real this time.

It would be enough to take it to the police station and dust it for prints.

You cannot disrupt a fake device, merely, render it unable to provide evidence.

50. I'm not an expert, but I understand that there is a protocol
that the bomb squads follow when they find a suspicious package. After checking the package with non-invasive methods and finding evidence for a timer or other devices, they often detonate it. The trade-off for blowing it up is that they destroy evidence (like finger prints, etc). However, its too risky to pick up a suspicious package to transport it.

Anyway, that's my understanding, and if someone knows better jump in.

40. Things are getting back to normal at the Mayflower Hotel
Things are getting back to normal at the Mayflower Hotel after a suspicious package was discovered in the basement of the facility.

Bomb technicians and an FBI terrorism task force were called in around 1:30 p-m after investigators declared what they described as a "credible threat." About 350 guests and staffers were evacuated.

A small explosive charge was used to blow open the package, which D-C Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department spokesman Alan Etter says was made to look like a real bomb.

Although it turned out to be a hoax, bomb technicians and police officers accompanied by bomb sniffing dogs were checking the entire building before allowing people back inside.

This was to give the "liberal media" some fodder other than Cindy Sheehan, the growing national discontent against the pointless war in Iraq and Bush's ever falling ratings. If I'm right, I have an additional $20 that says the trail leads to Karl Rove.

link:

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/14/hotel.package/

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A training device mistakenly left by a Secret Service agent at a Washington hotel was the "suspicious package" that prompted a building evacuation Sunday afternoon, law enforcement sources said.

The FBI and Secret Service sent teams of investigators to the Mayflower Hotel, a few blocks from the White House, after the package was found.

It was a hotel employee who discovered it, said Debbie Weierman, an FBI spokeswoman.

...and ya gotta take care of the "important folk" before you take care of the peons.

But it does seem as though they take their training rather cavalierly--maybe they need to get themselves a little before-and-after checklist that includes the notation: Don't forget to retrieve all training materials, to include bomb sniffing dogs, decontamination equipment, sensors, geiger counters, surveillance equipment and FAKE BOMBS!!!

Dunces, a confederacy of DUNCES!
