Boeing to shut down 757 jetliner production in late 2004

SEATTLE -- Boeing Co. will shut down its 757 passenger jet production line in late 2004, after building more than 1,000 of the mid-sized jetliners over the past two decades, the company said Thursday.
The announcement came after Continental Airlines said it was seeking to convert six orders for the jet to less-expensive 737-800 jetliners.

"This decision reflects the market reality for the 757 as well as the growth in range and seating capacity of our market-leading next-generation 737 family," said Alan Mulally, Boeing Commercial Airplanes chief executive. "Over the long term, the increased capabilities of our newest 737s and the exciting potential of the 7E7 will fulfill the market served by the 757."

3. I thought that was weird too
They're nicknaming the 7E7 the Dreamliner. Most of it will be built overseas and assembled somewhere in the US.

2. Just a thought...
But I'd vote for any candidate that forces Boeing/Airbus to build COACH seats that actually fits a 6'1" adult male.

7. I think the 777 does have that
One or two of the 777 lavatories have HUGE rooms for that purpose (Or at least on the airline that I flew the 777 on - can't recall). Ask the flight attendant and they'll show you which one to hunt for.

I flew coach from Frankfurt to Chicago on a UAL version and it was pretty damn comfortable. (I'm 6'0").

6. Airbus
I had this discussion over at an airline site
and it really peeved me off
John Kerry spoke yesterday in Washington
talking about how Airbus gets subsidized by
Europe, and how he would if President work
to stop that, which I think is a great idea
It is unfair for them to do that while Boeing
does not.
Something this misadministration is not doing to
protect our workers

In the form of nice juicy deals from the Pentagon.

Arizona Sen. John McCain is blasting the Pentagon's approval of a

The Defense Department Friday announced that it has approved an arrangement in which he U.S. Air Force will lease Boeing 767 aircraft to be used as fuel tankers. They will replace the existing fleet of tankers and can be used to refuel other aircraft while in flight.

McCain said the lease deal is a waste of federal money and it would be less expensive to modernize the existing air tanker fleet or to just buy new planes. The Republican senator said the Pentagon has not cooperated with Congressional inquiries on the issue and has not followed procedures for studying alternatives to the lease deal.

"In all my years in Congress, I have never seen the security and fiduciary responsibilities of the federal government quite so nakedly subordinated to the interests of one defense manufacturer," said McCain in a statement.

8. There goes Renton
But, on the up side, when Boeing sells off all that prime waterfront property on Lake Washington, I'm sure some enterprising developer will build a nice business park.

15. If you like superfund management!
Just look at the creosote mill Paul Allen wanted to develop. Soil will be toxic for hundreds of years! South Lake Washington is a danger zone.
