Thousands Fill Church for 'Justice Sunday'
Thousands Fill Church for 'Justice Sunday'

Monday August 15, 2005 1:46 AM

By BETH RUCKER

Associated Press Writer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Thousands of people filled a church Sunday night for ``Justice Sunday II,'' an event organizers said wasn't necessarily about pushing for the confirmation of John Roberts for the U.S. Supreme Court, but more about supporting justices who don't have radical agendas.

``We've seen a conservative president get re-elected, the conservative Congressional base expand. The (Supreme) Court is part of a cultural problem,'' said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, the organization responsible for ``Justice Sunday II: God Save the United States and this Honorable Court!''

The second in a series of demonstrations televised for broadcast at churches across the country included in its list of planned speakers U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, Focus on the Family founder James Dobson and conservative Christian activist Phyllis Schlafly.

Perkins said the rally was intended to help educate evangelical Christians about the Supreme Court and to encourage them to talk to friends and elected officials about what they want for the Court.

4. What the heck has happened to churches?
They used to be for honorable men and not criminals like DeLay. How can they be so blind? I guess as long as the courts follow 'their tight anused agenda' and not the constitution, anything goes.

8. That is most definitely true.
As a Christian, I am afraid of what has become of other Christians. It scares me when I see how blind some can be. I may sound like an alarmist, but I think * is the closest thing to the Anti-Christ I have ever seen. I do know many others who feel the same way, and that is comforting. What better way for evil to overcome us is there than to commit these horrors in the name of God. He has hijacked the name of Jesus, but his actions go against everything Jesus stood for. I have always wondered why no one stopped Hitler for so long. He said he was a Christian, too. I see a similar pattern developing over the last five years. We can not let this continue.

It has also been said he will portray himself as a man of God (God advises him) and the people will follow him like sheep. Sound familiar?

16. Allow me to address your "alarmist" doubt
The very first time I saw the image of * was on television. It was when he announced his first run for the oval office. I had not paid a very great deal of attention to politics beforehand, mind; I was among the 'sheeple' six or seven years ago, though the entire Lewinsky affair did open my eyes to the Republicans' tactics.

I have never felt before or since the kind of sensation I felt when viewing * for the very first time. It was as if my body had been plunged into a vat of icy water, I had been fed poisoned food, and had been injected with some drug all at once. The sensation only lasted for a split second, but I don't think I will forget it for the rest of my life.

This man is evil untinctured. Not only is every word and deed a lie or action intended only to further his agenda, but they are malicious as well: * knows exactly what he is doing.

He's fooled a LOT of people.

He proclaims himself a man of God.

You get the drift.

17. I've watched the Bush family now for more than two decades....
...the big tipoff for me was the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan. Not only was the would-be assassin a member of a family very close to the Bush family, but the man who sttod most to gain from the death of Reagan was George H. W. Bush.

That caused me to do a ton of research on this family, and I know for a fact they have ALL been evil, right to their bitter core.

Hitler was in power for a little more than eight years when he and his closest advisors formalized the "Final Solution". They had also overrun or annexed several countries by that time, all for the sake of building toward world domination. Next on their agenda was the Soviet Union, and that led to the ultimate ruin of Nazi Germany. And what a ruin it was...and what a terrible reputation they earned.

Herr Busch has only been in power for five years. But during that time he has done everything in his power to extend the goal of the NeoCons to dominate the world economically, politically, and militarily. If the NeoCons are left unchecked, the U. S. will be looked upon in much the same way.

18. US conservative Christians slam "judicial tyranny" (Reuters)
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 01:29 AM by Up2Late
I think this was sort of a "first draft" of this article, but it points out the hypocrisy better that the final article, (posted below) they had to re-write it to make it seem like the premise of this BS Rally actually makes sense. Calling Judges who "...chose not to endorse...John Roberts" an "activist judge?" Wouldn't they be the exact opposite? And what's the deal with the FRC "leaders" name? Is that for real, or are the RWers making up these names just to screw with us?

US conservative Christians slam "judicial tyranny"

Sun Aug 14, 2005 07:48 PM ET

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Reuters) - Christian conservative leaders used a "Justice Sunday" rally on Sunday to criticize activist judges but chose not to endorse U.S. President George W. Bush's nominee for the Supreme Court, John Roberts.

Organizers of the rally, which was co-sponsored by the prominent Christian conservative groups Family Research Center and Focus on the Family, denounced "judicial tyranny" and said they hoped to use the gathering as a "launching pad" to mobilize Christians against judges they say are overriding the Constitution with their decisions.

One of the leaders, Cathy Cleaver Ruse of the Family Research Center, called for emphasis on three issues -- a procedure that its critics call "partial-birth" abortion, abortion in general and euthanasia. Scheduled speakers at the rally included House Majority Tom DeLay of Texas and former Georgia Democratic Senator Zell Miller. The gathering, which was held at a Baptist church and televised to churches across the country and aired over the Internet, was called "Justice Sunday II: God Save the United States and This Honorable Court."

It followed a "Justice Sunday" in April that the groups used to attack Democrats who were filibustering against Bush's federal court nominees, saying the Democrats were opposed to people of faith.

US conservative Christians slam "judicial autocracy"

Sun Aug 14, 2005 11:21 PM ET

By Pat Harris

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Reuters) - Christian conservative leaders and U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay rallied on Sunday to condemn activist judges and heap praise on U.S. President George W. Bush's nominee for the Supreme Court, John Roberts. Organizers of the rally, which featured a packed audience at a Baptist church swaying and singing hymns beneath two huge American flags, said they hoped to use the gathering as a "launching pad" to mobilize Christians against judges they say are overriding the Constitution with their decisions.

Televised to churches across the country and broadcast over the Internet, "Justice Sunday II: God Save the United States and This Honorable Court" was co-sponsored by the prominent Christian conservative groups Family Research Center and Focus on the Family. Speaking from the pulpit, DeLay, a Texas Republican, decried what he called "the judicial autocracy" that was "casting aside moral values" to rewrite the law instead of interpreting it. DeLay praised Roberts as someone who is "intelligent, judicious and open-minded and I think he understands the critical but limited role of the courts."

Several groups have voiced opposition to the rallies, especially some Christians critical of what they see as a mingling of religion and politics. "We live in a complex society and theirs is a simplistic approach," said the Rev. Bill Sherman, a Baptist minister in nearby Fairview, Tennessee.

"To identify your church with a party, to push your agenda is not the proper function of the church. I don't like for any church to try to manipulate a political party. Politicians should be elected, not chosen by the church. There are plenty of Baptists who feel as I do and do not feel this is appropriate," he said.

These people will never be satisfied until they've destroyed our Nation. The courts have been pretty conservative for some time imo, and getting moreso.

They should be rejoicing.

We could use a liberal on the Supreme Court.

7 of the 9 of the Supreme Court were appointed by Presidents with letter (R) next to their name.

According to this link ...

Seven members of the current Supreme Court were appointed by Republican presidents.

Two justices were nominated by a Democratic president.

THE ULTRA-CONSERVATIVES: Scalia (appointed by Reagan) and Thomas (appointed by George Bush, Sr.)

VERY CONSERVATIVE: C. J. Rehnquist (appointed by Nixon)

CONSERVATIVE: O'Connor (appointed by Reagan) and Kennedy (appointed by Reagan)

MODERATES: Stevens (appointed by Ford), Souter (appointed by George Bush, Sr.), Ginsburg (appointed by Clinton) and Breyer (appointed by Clinton).

LIBERALS: There are no current members of the Court that are properly considered "liberal."

The 11 U.S. presidents since World War II have appointed 25 Supreme Court members. Republicans 15, Democrats 10.
