Party leader: Weld considering New York gov run

ALBANY, N.Y. Former Massachusetts Governor William Weld is considering running for governor of New York, where he was born and raised.

That's according to Michael Long, chairman of the New York state Conservative Party.

Long tells The Associated Press in New York that Weld telephoned him last week to discuss running for New York governor in 2006. Long says the Long Island-raised Republican is taking a serious look at running for the job currently held by George Pataki.

but he has no interest in being governor. He also has no business being a Republican.

2. Bill Weld was a pretty decent sort, but to him being governor

was just a hobby. He had a happy-go-lucky style, and when he got bored of being governor of Mass. he simply shoved off.

He'll do the same in NY.

He dumped his wife around the time he left for NY.

NY is famous for embracing carpetbaggers, but I dunno if Weld is a good fit for that job--I think he would get bored. Of course, if you have to have a GOP governor, he is as close to Dem as you can get....
