CLEVELAND (AP) — The parents of one of 16 Ohio-based Marines recently killed in Iraq want President Bush to take note of mounting casualties and come up with a new plan to bring the troops home.

"The war is not going well. There have to be changes made," Rosemary Palmer, mother of Lance Cpl. Edward Schroeder II, said on Tuesday. "Bush is digging himself a foxhole. He can't do that. He's got to move on. Whether he leads them out by putting more troops on the ground or pulling them out — he can't just let it continue."

Palmer and her husband planned to hold a news conference at their home later Tuesday, a day after they buried their son, who died two weeks ago in a roadside explosion in Iraq.

"We want to point out that 30 people have died since our son. Are people listening?" Palmer said...

If any of them met with him alone..... with only one secret service agent..... no aids, no rove, no flunkies..... then he'd show his ass.... and that person would out him (to his kind... we already know) for the idiot he is....
I'd wager that on a one on one basis he can not debate the "shifting reasons" for the war in iraq..... you can't defend beliefs that were just part of your script.

17. Verdict: He's going to ignore them.
I just read the latest version of Newsweek. There was a huge section devoted to "the Pentagon's new plans for fighting terrorism". It was 10 pages of Nothing New. They're just slapping on new words, like "Operation Get Em", "Operation Continue" and so on.

There's an article on Counter Punch that states, "The U.S. will continue in the same tracks, maybe another 10 years. Thousands more US troops will die. Hundreds of thousands more Iraqis will die."

They simply have NO ALTERNATE PLAN.

6. I guess these people haven't heard..monkeyspank is trying to live his life
George's mother Bar, as she is affectionately known in the Bush Famn Damily, doesn't waste her beautiful mind on it either. Laura is too busy practicing to be June Cleaver, and the children are all out too busy dry humping and drinking. And most Republicans just don't care. They say so. They do not care. Period.

So, I invite these tragedy stricken families to come to places like DU, where they will find respect, love, and sympathy for what has happened to them. We DO care.

18. Rosemary, what makes you so special? :sarcasm:
You think that just because you are an American voter, that still means something these days? That you actually have a voice, that your opinion matters????

There is a woman currently sitting and sweating in the hot Texas sun (I know I live here) that wants a few words with the worthless, better things to do, move on with his life, moron* and he not only won't walk the few miles to see her, he basically told her, "up yours".

So Rosemary, what makes you think that the king fucker* will make time for you?

He makes time and rides his bike with lance, I play a democrat on tv republican, armstrong, but won't take a few minutes to actually work and answer some none prescripted questions.

So Rosemary, please join the rest of the ranks of angry Americans that are screaming at the top of their lungs for this...president* (it hurts to say that) to actually do his* job. But also join the many of us that are the "have nots", because unless you have 10k to plunk down, you ain't getting squat from the asshole*.

I guess he* forgot that the job description also states that a president must have people skills. Oops!

Rosemary, on a different note, I can't even imagine what it must be like to loose a child, let alone for an idiot* that sold this nation a pack of lies. My prayers go out to you. Peace.

colossal failure*

22. Wow, thats a smart idea. Put more troops on the ground. (Not)
I just want to say. Hey lady, If USA were invaded they could keep putting troops on the ground till the cows come home. And people like myself would be picking them off like flies at our own leisure and convienence. Just like the Iraqi`s are doing to our troops. What makes her think that conquering the middle east is as easy as wiping out the American Indian was? It is not the same thing. Pulling our troops out is the most decent thing to do. Even though a civil war will continue after we leave. Some humanity will be salvaged and our troops can get the mental counciling they need after being used as pawns in Bu$h Inc.`s war crime.

isn't it pretty damn obvious there is no plan except to occupy and rape a country and its people of their natural resources. Wake up...

The young Marine went to Iraq filled with optimism about the mission, but he gradually became disillusioned with the war's progress, his parents said.

"He said the longer it went on the less and less worth it seemed," she said. "They're not doing the job right now. It's not the fault of the troops. It's the fault of the plan."

48. You forgot Halliburton.
Funneling taxpayer money to Halliburton was part of the plan too. As for the "war plan" itself, nobody in BushCo really gives a damn about "winning" or how many lives are lost. The longer we stay, the more Halliburton makes and the longer * can portray himself as a "war pResident", using that to attempt to stifle opposition and dissent. You can't criticize the pResident in a time of war, ya know.

27. From the article
"The young Marine went to Iraq filled with optimism about the mission, but he gradually became disillusioned with the war's progress, his parents said.

"He said the longer it went on the less and less worth it seemed," she said. "They're not doing the job right now. It's not the fault of the troops. It's the fault of the plan."

This fallen marine's nickname was Augie, and he seemed to be a caring, wonderful young man. We have met Casey Sheehan through his mother, Cindy. How many bright, intelligent, truly valuable human lives have been lost to this madman's whim?

When Ms. Palmer says the war's failure isn't the fault of the troops, but the fault of the plan, she's right. Except that there is NO plan. Chimp and the neocons have completely ruined a country already suffering from the first Gulf War and an embargo; he has spent this country into poverty, and divided us as a nation to an extent not seen since the Civil War.

There is no plan, except for the neocons to garner power, grab wealth, and use the rest of us until we die. We know many of the members of this administration, and the harm they have done. We know the Bush family, and the Cheney creature. We know Bolton, and Rummy, Condi and Negroponte. We know Rove, and Libbey, and the rest of them.

Augie Schroeder, the young man in today's article, and Casey Sheehan, and the other bright and caring young men and women who have fallen, have been denied a chance to live up to their potential. Their families and friends have been denied the love and joy these young men would have continued providing.

All the others, too, the ones who are alive, but terribly disabled for life, the ones who carry their scars on their souls and hearts, where they can't be seen by the rest of us...all of them, and more, are gone, ruined, and removed from humanity, because a spoiled, corrupt, arrogant brat imposes his will, unchecked by the cowardly Democratic politicians who should be opposing him at every turn.

In Iraq, a whole country suffers; children see carnage and horror, and death and destruction; they suffer wounds no child should ever have to bear. The rest of us, especially us here at DU, know that this will continue, unless enough of us have the courage to speak up, as Cindy Sheehan has done. I wish I had words that could help heal these mother's wounds. I wish I could tell Augie's mother that we have a plan to get out, but we don't.

40. Augie Schroeder Buried Yesterday
The Cleveland paper (Plain Dealer) had front page picture of Augie's flag-draped casket. The paper has finally realized that they must cover the deaths in Bush's War. Every day for over a week now, front page pictures of Ohio Marines being buried. Like these last Thursday:

1-year-old Alexander Montgomery dresssed in a marine uniform watches as his father, Lance Cpl. Brian Montgomery's casket is brought to Western Reserve Memorial Garden in Chester Township. Aug. 10, 2005. Brian is one of the Ohio Marines killed in Iraq early last week.

Look again, closer in:

One-year-old Alexander Montgomery attended the funeral of his father, U.S. Marine, Brian Montgomery, at Western Reserve Memorial Garden, Chester Twp., Ohio, Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005.

CLEVELAND (AP) - The day after burying their son, parents of a fallen Marine urged President Bush to either send more reinforcements to Iraq or withdraw U.S. troops altogether.

``We feel you either have to fight this war right or get out,'' Rosemary Palmer, mother of Lance Cpl. Edward Schroeder II, said Tuesday.

Schroeder, 23, died two weeks ago in a roadside explosion, one of 16 Ohio-based Marines killed recently in Iraq.

The soldier's father said his son and other Marines were being misused as a stabilizing force in Iraq.

``Our comments are not just those of grieving parents,'' Paul Schroeder said in front of the couple's home. ``They are based on anger, Mr. President, not grief. Anger is an honest emotion when someone's family has been violated.''

"The soldier's father said his son and other Marines were being misused as a stabilizing force in Iraq."

Stabilizing force! Iraq didn't need stabilizing until U$ attacked them, shit even women could go to work and have rights. They needed us to lift sanctions for medicines, electrical and water repair items and they surely didn't need 12 years of over 20,000 sorties, including bombings from the end of the Gulf War until the beginning of the current so-called war on 'terra'.

Misused, I have stronger words but he is right!

Out of grief, activism on Iraq war
Wednesday, August 17, 2005

Michael Sangiacomo
Plain Dealer Reporter

The parents of a Marine killed in Iraq accuse President George Bush of killing their son, as well as 1,851 other American troops...

The parents of Lance Cpl. Edward "Augie" Schroeder II, held a news conference in their front yard in Cleveland Tuesday to say that it's time for the American people to "stand up and shout their condemnation" of the war.

Noting that their Marine son would probably disagree with them, the couple asked Americans to tell Bush, their senators and representatives that:...

The parents said they support the effort of Cindy Sheehan in Crawford, Texas, the mother who is part of a new anti-war movement. Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq, has camped out on the road to Bush's ranch since Aug. 6 and refuses to move until he agrees to meet with her...
