A former cabinet minister is drawing huge crowds and stoking the fires of anti-Americanism in Germany with a book arguing that the US government mounted the Sept 11 attacks as part of a plot to win global domination.

Andreas von Bülow has gone even further than Michael Meacher, Britain's former environment minister, who claims the US knowingly failed to prevent the attacks.

Von Bülow, 66, believes that Sept 11 was staged to justify the subsequent wars on Afghanistan and Iraq.

"If what I say is right, the whole US government should end up behind bars," he says.

Nearly every war the U.S. has been involved in for the past 125 years has a 9-11-type beginning, so his theory can't be easily dismissed.

It makes a lot more sense than the Official Story Conspiracy about 9-11.

I don't know when it started, but he is really a nutjob. You have to see him talk. And the parts of his books I've seen (OK, the selection was not in his favor) are absurd and borderline anti-semitic.

Nor was he ever head of the BND, he was in the parliamentary oversight comitee.
Bülow was deputy minister of defense and minister of research under Schmidt (not at once).
