Concern Over Mideast Prompted Europeans to Accept U.S. Move

RUSSELS, Oct. 16 — France and Germany decided to join Russia in support of the United Nations resolution on the future of Iraq not because they had been won over by new provisions, officials said Thursday, but out of concern over a spiral of violence in the Middle East coupled with a sense that few new concessions could be wrung from the Bush administration.

"We all see a spiral of violence and terror that is growing in Iraq," the French foreign minister, Dominique de Villepin, told reporters on Thursday at a summit meeting of European leaders. Noting the deterioration of the situation "in the Middle East as a whole," he said it was "important to send a message to the Iraqi people that we also want the best conditions for the reconstruction of Iraq."

I don't think this is the sort of thing Bushco wants reported. Everyone is supposed to be praising Dubya for his brilliant leadership. Stopid furriners.

1. As I thought, it was Russia that wanted to hug Bushie boy on the
U.N. vote. What DID Poppy Bush promise Putin when he visited Russia a few weeks ago? Poppy must have been begging Pootie-Poot to save his boy's ass. I wonder how many billions are going to be funneled to Putin now?

:grr:
