6. Not uncommon from what I've heard
The soldiers drive fast, faster than many of these vehicles can really take, because slowing down is an invitation to get hit. Result has been a lot of fatal accidents for troops.

(Also happens when they get back home, because they haven't adjusted their reflexes to civilian driving.)

10. I read they also often drive without lights at night
This incident occurred at about 3:45 a.m., so that could also be part of it. They drive without lights in a warzone for obvious reasons.

2. all from the 48th brigade from here in GA. I think this war is finally
starting to hit home here now. We've lost about 15 soldiers since *'s vacation began. Our news programs are actually starting to show parents or family members who speak reservations or anger about the war and the young men and women we are losing. It's still so sad though. One of our soldiers received his purple heart and silver star and he lay in a hospital with most of his body burned beyond recognition. He died one hour after he received these medals with his mother by his side.

3. So what's the "unofficial" count...??

I've heard that this number (1856) reflects only those who die on the battlefield, in Iraq, and excludes anyone later dying in field hospitals or military hospitals in Germany or the States.

Anybody have info on this unofficial count?

7. You heard wrong
That's a,lie that has been debunked about 10,000 times on DU. Funbny how you never "heard" any of these debunkings...:eyes:

The 1858 includes those who die later in hospital. Go to www.icasualties.org , click on "Fatality Details," scroll to the bottom and filter by place of death. Then, go tell whoever told you that soldiers who die in hospital aren't counted to stop spreading fucking lies.

12. There was at least one more fatality on Monday
Cpl. Micheal Stokley with the Georgia 48th Brigade was killed on Monday when an explosive went off on the road his patrol was traveling.

I received this information from my brother-in-law in an email today. Cpl. Stokley was his girlfriend's nephew. So very sad.

13. It takes a day or 2 or 3 to get listed on the website.
I hear of 6 more deaths and it takes a while for them to show up. Sorry for all the friends and families.
