March permits in front of the White House secured for Sept. 24
Tuesday, August 16, 2005

Victory! March permits obtained for mass march on September 24 directly in front of the White House on Pennsylvania Ave.

Victory!

March permits obtained
for mass march on
September 24
directly in front of the
White House
on Pennsylvania Ave.

The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition has secured a permit from the Metropolitan Police Department for the mass march on September 24 that will take the demonstration directly in front of the White House on Pennsylvania Ave. This is the first time in many years that a march permit has been secured allowing people to exercise their First Amendment right for a mass assembly march and protest on Pennsylvania Ave. right at the doorstep of the White House.

Momentum is building all over the country. More than 100 cities have established Transportation Centers to bring buses to what will be the largest antiwar demonstration in a long time.

The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition expresses its gratitude to the attorneys with the Partnership for Civil Justice, who are also with the National Lawyers Guild, for their work in securing these march permits.

The last thing George Bush and the warmakers want to see is hundreds of thousands of people demonstrating on Pennsylvania Ave. right in front of the White House - but that is what they will see!

Please make a donation today to help this mobilization. Your donation helps pay for the expense of printing hundreds of thousands of leaflets, posters, stickers; organizing transportation from around the country; and arranging a large number of logistical needs necessary to make the demonstration happen. Please take a moment and make a donation through our secure server, where you can also obtain information to write a check.

19. Doesn't matter
Neither what is going on in Crawford, nor what we will be doing in DC has one thing to do with winning that moron's heart or mind. It's the public we must be and are winning.

4. this is a HUGE win ... thread recommended !!!
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 11:03 PM by welshTerrier2
while i'm not overly fond of ANSWER, getting a legit permit will attract thousands if not tens of thousands of additional people ... many will not break the law to protest ...

this is great news ...

thanks for posting it !!

6. Jokingly!
You are a sissybaby.
In the late 60's I got fired upon and stuff for protesting the VN War.
Where were you?

10. Ruined lens on camera
Birdshot and another story I won't talk about 30-30 at least, all at UNM ABQ and when I was in France got awoken by all the teachers and students holding newspapers with Kent State headlines (around 1500 of them) at a lycee in France where I was an exchange intern-teacher asking why hasn't the President resigned, De Gualle did in mai 1968!
I said because the U$ of A gov was fasco-corporatist and they understood.
Hasn't changed, walking the same protests routes as in late 60's early 70's against the war in VN now in our 21 st century. GD (does not mean genral discussion) Bu$hCO and fascist-corporatists!

i found it interesting that you spelled "mai" as you did ... i's sorry to say my French language skills have suffered badly over the years ...

perhaps you will find the following link worth a read: http://www.dsausa.org/about/where.html

i'm not sure whether there's much life in the Party politically but i really like their platform ...

25. Yes, I am a Socialist!
It was MAI 68 in France and De Gaulle got his ass handed to him when he called for a Referendum!

Already know the link. Being Socialist in America is difficult. Wellstone got the biggest contribution I have ever given and one morning I woke up to the news on the radio that he had been killed. I cried like I cried when Bobby was killed. I had taken pictures of him in ABQ a few days before.

11. DC is a great place for kids
I live in the northeast and have traveled there twice with mine, once at age 8 and again at 12. The museums are fantastic and free, not to mention the federal buildings.

Just keep away from the police lines and the troops.

18. Great news, but will the ANSWER folks stay on message?
I'm all for it, but I'd hate to see it degenerate into what I've seen from some (not all) ANSWER events, a catch-all for every activist's pet issue...free Mumia, legalize marijuana, etc.

Hope it stays on laser-focus >>> End The War. :)

20. Don't get your hopes up
I recall watching the rally on Cspan where the woman from Kensington rights union got up to bitch about Tom Ridge cutting programs in Pennsylvania. That did not do anything to stop the war in Iraq.

They also have this lame-ass way of railing about Palestine without at all developing the story. A curious viewer might not know the length of what Answer was talking about and think Palestine was somehow related to Iraq, Afghanistan, whatever. It did not work to our advantage.

A few Democrats like Kucinich and Jesse Jackson spoke at the rallies, but as the rallies proceeded, the prominent ones quit attending.

21. Oh boy oh boy!
I am so fricking excited about this march.

:bounce:

And for those who bitch about ANSWER's multi-issue approach to things, well, why don't you organize your own rally sometime in DC, see how many people you can bring in, see if you can get Steve Earle to play there, see if you can get all the permits and hundreds of buses bringing people in from all oer the country.

26. San Francisco has a march too
If you can't get to either, like me, our local peace and justice center may be able to organize one for ABQ. We talked about it at the Cindy Vigil tonight. Try to get one going in your city.

Sure this is on the "greatest" page with 10 votes, but not many are commenting.

Hopefully many are reading without commenting and passing on to their friends.
