Ohio soldier killed in Iraq
http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/special_packages/iraq/7033705.htm

COLUMBUS, Ohio - An Ohio soldier who was killed in Iraq started his military career in the Navy and wanted to be a police officer, family and friends said.

Spc. James Edward Powell II, 26, died Sunday when his Bradley armored vehicle struck a land mine near Beiji, 30 miles north of Tikrit, the Army said Thursday.

Powell, a Columbus native, wanted to join the state police in Kentucky, where his wife is from, after his current tour ended in a few months.

"He just wanted to make something of his life. He wanted to go into the military, then become a cop," said lifelong friend Adam Warrix, 26, of Columbus. "He was outgoing and always looking to help someone out."

Powell was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment. The unit is part of the 4th Infantry Division, which controls a large swath of northern Iraq and is based in Tikrit, Saddam Hussein's hometown 120 miles north of Baghdad.

Powell graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1996 and enlisted in the Navy. He joined the Army in January 2001 in Radcliff, Ky., military officials said.

His wife, Ruby Powell, and their 2-year-old daughter, Laurin, live at Fort Hood, Texas, where Powell's Army unit is based

There should be more faces with the names.
Christ, bring these kids home.

1. It is clear the Military is going to be stuck there forever
You can't stop landmines. Seriously, you can't. Attackers can set them up anytime of day when no one is around just waiting for the next US troop to come along.

The only way Iraq is going to be peaceful is to set up Iraq's own government and let them take care of their business.

Peace will never be won with America occupying Iraq.

2. "Quagmire"
i know there was all kinds of screeching about comparisons with Vietnam, but it's looking more like it all the time. It's a flashback to about 1968, and Cheney is Westmoreland, talking about a light at the end of the tunnel. (Rent "Hearts and Minds" sometime)
how soon before the survivors start pitching their medals over the White House Fence or on the stepts of the Capitol?

6. More Like The USSR In Afganistan
We taught them, supplied them and abandon them after all. They remembered the lessons and have taught their neighbors.

4. The story made me cry. What has become of Americans to let this happen
to our children in the first place? And now that it's clear what lies The Bush Crime Family has sold us, why do 50% of The People still support Junior and let our children continue to be slaughtered? Are they the Christians who'd follow the Repukelican Party into Hell for God?

Where are the million people protest marches in America?

5. I had to reach for the kleenex myself....
It's my feeling that the protests will kick back up. I also have a fear that with these ghouls in office, Kent State might seem tame compared to what Bush & Rummy might do.
