Bombs explode across Bangladesh

A series of simultaneous bomb blasts have taken place across Bangladesh,
reports say.

"There are bomb blasts all over the country. We have reports of some
injuries but no fatalities yet," senior police official Abdul Kaiyum
told AFP.

The explosions went off in the capital Dhaka as well as several other
cities, including the port city of Chittagong.

Police officials say it is still not clear who was behind the blasts.

But leaflets from a little known Islamic group, Mujahideen Bangladesh,
have appeared at the site of some of the blasts.

Early this year the Bangladesh government banned Jamatul Mujahideen and another group, Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh

They were accused of being behind a series of bomb blasts, including those at two local aid agencies - Grameen and Brac.

I know nothing of Bangladeshi politics, but I see no reason to suspect anything other than domestic terrorism.

because it is the most fertile place on earth. But it is an incredibly flat country (it is one big river delta, in effect.) Most of Bangladesh can grow 3 rice crops a year, which allows its incredible birth rate. But periodical flooding of that flat land leads to food shortages.

Despite its fertility, it has to import food almost every year.

At least two people have been killed and 50 others injured in a series of small bomb blasts across Bangladesh.

Officials say more than 300 explosions took place simultaneously in 50 cities and towns across the country including the capital Dhaka.

An outlawed Islamic group, Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh, says it carried out the attacks.

Police say that more than 50 people have been arrested in connection with the blasts.

DHAKA, Bangladesh -- More than 100 homemade bombs planted by suspected Islamic militants exploded nearly simultaneously across Bangladesh on Wednesday, killing two people, including a young boy, and wounding at least 125.

About 50 people were arrested, a state-run news agency reported. There was no claim of responsibility, but leaflets from a banned group seeking the imposition of Islamic law were found at many scenes.
