US Catholics losing faith

Half of Roman Catholics in the US believe that the Pope should stand down because “he is not in touch with the modern world”, according to figures published yesterday. The USA Today/CNN/Gallup poll also found that half of American Catholics feel he should step down because of his failing health.

The Pope’s approval rating among American Catholics has also dropped significantly since 1999, according to the poll.

Four years ago, 89 per cent approved of the way he was leading their Church. That figure has now dropped to 63 per cent.

Although 49 per cent believe he should stay in office until he dies, early last year only 36 per cent said that he should step down.

1. it's sort of a moot point...
he'll likely be dead before the end of this year. He may last 'til next summer, but I doubt it. I know he said today that God wants him to live, but I beg to differ.

2. I'm with you on that one!
On my personal hotline to Him Upstairs, I distinctly heard the Almighty say "JP2 is deaf...I never said he was to go on THIS long..."

3. He got it right on Iraq.....
Before the war, he said it would be immoral. He is out to lunch on a lot of other issues however, like telling Africans that condoms cause aids. Hell, these guys just got around to conceding that the earth wasn't flat, in what, like 1982 or something?

6. Do you have the links to your 2 assertions or are you just a liar??
I would like to see where Pope JPII told "Africans that condoms cause aids". I would also like to see where "these guys just got around to conceding that the earth wasn't flat, in what, like 1982 or something".

4. I just KNEW this would happen!
Why schools in the U.S. ever decided to include science classes in their curricula is beyond me.

5. I cannot access this article w/o registering and ...
exactly where does it state that U.S. Catholics are losing faith might I ask? My faith is stronger than it has been in years!

Long live the Pope! PJPIIis the only one that went to * and told him not to go to Iraq because he would go without God. If that is being "feeble minded" well so be it. I think pope John Paul is quite aware of at least this one reality.

The rest of his comments are to be interpreted however it seems the world cares to interpret them. What language did he make such statements in? Difficult to know being he speaks 8 or 9 of them.
