Taiwan holds military drill ahead of China-Russia wargames

TAIPEI (AFX) - Taiwan today staged a military exercise simulating an invasion by China, a day before Beijing and Moscow launch rare joint exercises.

Television footage showed hundreds of fully armed soldiers landing on a beach off the town of Linko, 30 kms south of Taipei, as jet fighters streaked overhead. snip

China and Russia are to begin rare week-long joint exercises tomorrow involving nearly 10,000 troops aimed at strengthening their ability to fight terrorism and separatism.

The drills, known as 'Peace Mission 2005', will start at Vladivostok and will later move to the Yellow Sea and the area off the Jiaodong peninsula in eastern China's Shandong province.

1. With a little coordination, they could simulate a real war.

Have them practice together.

My nightmare scenario is someone (an interested 3rd party) launching 2 cruise missles from a sub...one to Taiwan and one to mainland China. And then we're off to the races.

China/Taiwan/USA. That's where the real trouble is. Screw NK, they're hardly a blip. The Middle East is fucked up, but it's stable in its own fucked up way, you know what I mean? However, this China/Taiwan business with the US inbetween is where the real trouble could easily get started.
