Whether Northwest Airlines' mechanics go on strike Saturday or not, the labor dispute will have immediate impact at airports in Pittsburgh, Latrobe and elsewhere.
The number of flights will be automatically reduced because Northwest will implement a lighter fall schedule. "We are beginning the fall schedule a week earlier than usual, given the current situation," Northwest spokesman Scott Tennat said.
Under that schedule, Pittsburgh International Airport will lose six flights and Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe will lose one of three flights as Northwest cuts roughly 10 percent of its1,600 daily flights systemwide.
