British soldiers serving in Iraq to get germ-fighting underwear
LONDON Defense officials in Britain are briefing the public on a new wrinkle in the fight against the heat and dust of Iraq and Afghanistan -- germ-fighting underwear.

The antimicrobial underpants have been introduced by the Ministry of Defense as part of a new desert uniform. They are the first undergarments issued to British troops, who traditionally have supplied their own.

A military spokesman says the underwear is not only coated to prevent bacterial infection, developers tried to arrange the seams so they don't chafe.

Keep it up two three four!

Oh the aim of our patrol
is a question rather droll.
We don't change our briefs for at least two weeks,
it's a military goal!
It's a military goal!

Hup two three four. Dress it up two three four.
Hup two three four. Dress it up two three four.

Oh we march from here to there
and it doesn’t matter where.
No bug's lurking here, in our underwear
only military air!
Only military air!

2. Funny wording
"briefing the public..." should be "briefing the troops..." :-)

4. "We shall cover the end, we shall fight in the pants
we shall fight on the crevices with chafing motions, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength for the healing air, we shall defend our bottoms, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the britches, we shall fight on the fanny, sound - we shall fight in the sweaty pounds causing friction in the seats, we shall fight in the bloomers ; we shall never surrender

5. We could've used anti-fungal underwear in 'Nam.

Crotch-rot is no joke. Talcum only helped to a limited degree.

7. Yep. My toes said "there's a fungus among us" too.

It took a LOT of diligence to stay fungus-free. I went through two pairs of socks every day. I was thankful for the newer design jungle boots as opposed to the older all-leather (stateside) boots. The mesh helped evaporation. I'm glad I wasn't slogging in rice paddies very often. Thankfully, I never had to benefit from the steel plate, but the punji pit protection was terrific, I was told.

10. Can't link, b/probably silver threads, see it in REI-type clothes catalogs
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 01:11 PM by confludemocrat
There's also coolmax underwear and clothing and clothes with natural insect repellant worked into fabric too. These should all be issued to troops, especially in Iraq along better body and vehicle armor. Will it happen? No we will not waste our money on this kind of luxury, we will make sure it's stolen by Halliburton and the like

13. We got issued this stuff too.
We got issued "under armor" brand clothes which used the same anti-microbial treatment. This isn't revolutionary or new.
