Byrd to announce decision on 2006 campaign next month
http://www.wvgazette.com/section/News/Other%20News/200508179

Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., said late Wednesday afternoon that he plans to officially announce whether he will seek re-election in 2006 early next month.

His campaign committee, Friends of Robert Byrd, has already raised more than $1.7 million for the 2006 campaign — more money than Byrd has ever raised this early in any previous campaign.

Byrd is currently serving his eighth six-year term in the Senate, to which he was first elected in 1958. Throughout his career, Byrd has cast 17,365 roll call votes, 98.7 percent of all votes he could have cast. He has cast more votes than any senator in the history of the United States.

4. Enough is enough
Time for him to retire gracefully. Does he want to go out like Strom?

6. Senator Robert C. Byrd is our last true statesman
I will always remember Kef's Byrd Watch threads on the six week lead up to the IWR. Senator Byrd stood alone hour after hour, day after day and week after week, speaking eloquently about why we should not invade Iraq.

It is because of him that I keep a pocket size copy of our Constitution w/me at all times.

If he decides to run again, I will donate to and support him.

9. Yes, Byrd may be one of the Last Americans left in Congress
No matter if you agree with everything he's done or not, he was indeed one of the few to dare to call the Emperor Tiberius Bushler what he was, and that is as rare as Oskar Schindlers in Nazi Germany.

8. If Byrd dies in office, does the Governor appoint?
and if so, who is the Governor in W Va and is he a Democrat we can trust?
