TOKYO, AUGUST 18: Japan is considering a new draft resolution for United Nations Security Council expansion, on which it is expected to consult other G4 members, including India.
The draft will be presented in the UN General Assembly in September, in the hope of its being adopted by the year-end, Kyodo news agency reported on Thursday, quoting government sources.
The move comes as chances seem grim of the General Assembly’s adopting a framework resolution submitted by the G4—Japan, Brazil, Germany and India—aimed at expanding the Security Council.
The G4’s framework resolution hit difficulties in early August after the 53-member African Union decided not to pursue a joint proposal with the four nations. <snip>
