Boxer and Feinstein: Two pro-choice senators, two views of John Roberts
-----------------
Carolyn Lochhead, Chronicle Washington Bureau
Friday, August 19, 2005
----------------
Washington --

(snip)

Next month, Democratic Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein will play starring roles in another contentious Supreme Court confirmation hearing for the nominee of another President Bush, where women's issues again promise to eclipse all others.

Although their views on the core issue of preserving abortion rights are identical, their styles and strategies are wildly different. Judging from their statements so far, Boxer and Feinstein appear likely to split on the nomination of Judge John Roberts.

Their strikingly divergent approaches, analysts say, reflect a deeper divide within the Democratic Party over how to handle the Roberts nomination while trying to win back the White House and Congress.

Boxer is an agitator from the left who threatened in a speech in San Francisco this month to "use all the parliamentary tools I've been given as a U.S. senator'' to delay a vote on Roberts if necessary, stopping just short of threatening a filibuster.

(snip)

"Nobody expects this president to appoint a liberal to the court," Feinstein said in an interview that day. "It isn't going to happen."

1. So bend over and take it in the ASS Feinstein.
"Nobody expects this president to appoint a liberal to the court," Feinstein said in an interview that day. "It isn't going to happen."

3. It's the kind of fallacious remark made by a weasel.
NOBODY expects a 'liberal'!! Once upon a time, CONSERVATIVES didn't want the government in their bedroosm, either!!

DiFi pisses me off altogether too often with this kind of bullshit.

23. Yeah, I might accept some 65 year old "classic" conservative.
The kind who throws people in jail for peeking into other folks' bedrooms, or ripping off the company pension funds.

But Roberts ain't that.

2. Feinstein is really a Republican. She has been useless on the big
issues. I don't care how these ADA ratings work, mostly on numbers rather than major issues, she's a Republican troll.

I expect her to vote for this guy because she's serving her and her husband a big meal based on support of the Iraq war.

12. This is a huge problem for the Dems - Republicans in Democrat clothing
Feinstein, Lieberman, Zell Miller, etc. We need people who will stand up to the Republican criminals, not jump in bed with them.

7. I only needed to read the headline to
figure out the content. Boxer, as her name implies, is a fighter. Feinstein has become one sorry excuse for a Democratic Senator.

9. Maybe she knows something
Since Roberts helped out on a gay rights case, it's possible he's got a softer side that only Diane and her Bay Area constituents know about.

Or is it a quid pro quo?

11. I doubt it, at least if Feinstein had anything to do with it.
Feinstein voted for the bankruptcy bill which put thousands of CA workers out of luck, and small businesses....Some advocate for civil rights she is, what a total con.

If the voting machines are removed from that district, I want to see her permanently run out. The whole state, and larger nation needs less like her to be in front of anything.

24. Roberts caught some shit for the neocons before it hit the fan.
The backlash from the anti-gay Colorado legislation would have been very damaging to the Republican Party.

Imagine sympathetic television news reports of all those "nice" don't ask don't tell homosexuals getting fired from their jobs and evicted from their homes.

Al Gore might be president, despite the fraud.

13. amazing
So, doing your damn JOB representing your constituents is now being an "agitator" from the left? Why is someone like Brownback never called an "agitator" from the right???

Feinstein will go along with anything that Bush wants - after all, his war has made her and her war profiteering husband a bundle of cash.

16. "Agitator" implies "troublemaker"...
according to dictionary.com

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=agitator

Well, if Boxer is "making trouble", she's making the kind of trouble that I and around 60%+ of Californians like her to create!

Sheesh!

bad I had 3rd degree burns on my computer screen. Now I see I wasn't the only one that was fed up with her hypocrisy.

it would be "hard" to vote for roberts if feinstein knew he would take down RVW, but it would be "impossible" for boxer.

21. I'm writing Feinstein again
I know that she can be swayed. I spent a lot calling and writing during the Headwaters fight. Although she didn't do all that I wanted she did fight for 7000 acres of old growth forest. She also has breakfast with her constituents in Washington, so I am going to visit her in person during the protests. I am so angry that she doesn't represent us.

22. There isn't another California Dem who can win Feinstein's seat?
At this point, other than having a "D" seat in the Senate, Diane "Ms.Rice is a remarkable woman" Feinstein is utterly useless for the Democrats. I can't believe there's not a ton of better California Democrats who could win her seat over a Republican.

She's disappointed me for years. I don't care who runs against her in the primary, I'll crawl on my hands and knees to the polls to vote against her.
