Coast families react to protest
By AMANDA CREEL

As a grief-stricken mother of a fallen soldier fights to be heard, South Mississippi military families have strong emotions and mixed feelings about her efforts.

Cindy Sheehan, who lost her 24-year-old son in the war in Iraq, has sat in protest since Aug. 6 just outside President Bush's vacation ranch in Crawford, Texas.

Alan Skewes, father of Frank Skewes, a member of the Mississippi National Guard 155th, said, "It's her right. I don't think what she is doing is wrong. I just don't agree with it."

He added, "I feel for her and it is one of my biggest fears, but it wouldn't change my opinion of it (the war on terrorism in Iraq). I am in support of what we are doing over there."

The "soldier" in that photo is just a boy.

1. The war on terrorism in Iraq???? WTF is that?
First time I've ever seen it referred to in that manner.

4. I don't see what the real problem with this is:

Alan Skewes, father of Frank Skewes, a member of the Mississippi National Guard 155th, said, "It's her right. I don't think what she is doing is wrong. I just don't agree with it."

that's a high level of discourse, these days, the Freepers should take notes, you can actually disagree with someone's opinions without demonoizing them. shocking.

Good Luck Skewes, may you never know the pain of such a loss.

5. I agree with you.
There are other comments against what Cindy is doing. One wife of a soldier said it would set a bad precedent. People are just so damned screwed up - the prezidip can go golfing and meet with rich GOPers that donate to the party, but he shouldn't set a precedent by meeting with Cindy Sheehan. :argh:

6. I noticed that as well. IF ONLY all those in support of war could be as
inclined to raise the level of discourse.
