4,000 soldiers heading to Shelby- Nt'l Guard from NJ, IA, NE, KS, UT
Another 4,000 soldiers will begin arriving next month for training at Camp Shelby before they deploy to Iraq.
Almost 2,700 of them belong to the 34th Infantry Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team of the Minnesota National Guard. They will be augmented by National Guard troops from New Jersey, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Utah.

Their arrival will bring to more than 17,000 the number of troops trained at Camp Shelby for service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
<clip to last paragraph>
The brigade is expected to deploy in late winter or spring after final training at the U.S. Army's Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, La.

Texas Army National Guard men and women from Temple, Houston and San Antonio are preparing for deployment this week, said a release from the Texas National Guard Public Affairs office at Camp Mabry in Austin.
Soldiers from the 136th Signal Battalion, which includes a Headquarters Company in Temple, Company A in Houston, and Company B in San Antonio, are mobilizing in their home cities and preparing to move to Fort Hood for about 60 days of pre-deployment training.
The battalion is headquartered in Temple and commanded by Lt. Col. Timothy M. Smith of Georgetown.
About 85 soldiers from Temple and 140 soldiers each from Houston and San Antonio are preparing to support the mission of installing, operating, maintaining and defending communications systems in support of the ongoing operation of the Multinational Force Iraq.

3. I also saw something today--can't find it
but said that they are sending an elite paratrooper squad to watch prisoners. Yeah, okay.:eyes:
Anyway...anyone who doubts something isn't getting ready to happen, needs to pull their head out of their ass.

4. 700 of them.
And they made it clear the 700 were not included in the previously scheduled departures.

If I find a link, I'll post it.

Responding to an appeal for more forces in Iraq to help manage a rising number of detainees, the Pentagon is dispatching an additional 700 troops from 82nd Airborne Division, defense officials said yesterday.

The previously unscheduled deployment is intended specifically to bolster prison operations, the officials said. It is not part of a temporary increase in U.S. troop levels in Iraq that commanders have said is likely to enhance security for a planned constitutional referendum in October and governmental elections in December.
